http://www.fox13news.com/news/local-news/215012987-story (this is going on in my hometown and i have already found 2!)

i may be setting myself up for a public crucifixion here....be kind in your criticisms please.
remember i hold the "delete button ;) "

this is NOT about rock stacking.
i know about the rock stacking in aruba and although i dont do it, i do not necessarily care or give it much of a 2nd thought except it messes up the landscaping for those that scurry, skink, crawl or hop across the terrain. i am not a big getting back to nature kinda lady.

however, i was wondering about "rock painting?"

could your child take an aruba rock, paint a face or a scene or a design on it? sign their name and date? and place it back where it was found?

or

bring a painted rock from home (usa, canada, euro, south america etc) paint a face or a scene and where the rock came from and the words "thank you"
leave the rock in an area where it is likely to be found. (near an elementary school, shopping, police station, fire station, library, church grounds)
the finder, maybe an aruba resident, keeps it and brings home a nice souvenir from a tourist.

it might be a new kind of tradition "aruba rocks"

Oh, my dear friend Andrea, you are truly a brave soul.;)

Seriously though, my feeling is, people would view rock painting the way they view vandalism.

I can see some strong support & even stronger bashing of the idea!

Personally, I'm not sure I would like to see it in Aruba. The natural beauty is what amazes me so much!

A PTO mom suggested this for an elementary school in town. That I think would be the perfect & more appropriate place for painted rocks ;) 5963

To Jacki's point Andrea, maybe they could designate a place for the rocks. The picture that Jacki posted is pretty. Perhaps the Tourism Board could pick out a place for people to put thank you rocks if they'd like. A place that immediately comes to mind is the Airport. I know they are planning some renovations. A "tourist rock garden" maybe. I like the idea, but I understand the bashing part too....

:offtopic: a little - A friend in Florida paints rocks ("rocks of love") and hides them all around town for people to find. Some have sea creatures, some are designs, some are inspirational words. There is an instagram page, and folks can post pics if they so desire. People really enjoy finding them, especially the kids!

Cute idea. I'd go for a rock garden somewhere rather than putting them back. Some resorts have children's clubs. They could have a rock painting activity and use them in rock gardens on the property.

I like Hockeymom's idea. There is a local college near us "Mt. Holyoke" we love to walk the trail around the pond which is a mile. There is a spot where the students paint and leave rocks, the sign says take a rock, leave a rock. Sounds like it is becoming popular around different parts.
