We're so excited to be heading to Aruba for our FIRST time to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary! We were married in Turks & Caicos in 2007, so celebrating in the Caribbean seemed perfect! We arrive 7/3.

For those of you who are frequent visitors, where is the best place to meet and hang out socially with others? We'll be staying at the Hilton Resort & Casino.

Also, since we're first timers, I'd love to hear what you think is the #1 thing we should do while there? I know answers will vary, but if we get repeat answers we'll know to move something up the list. We enjoy the outdoors, food and drink, the beach and water (Hubby likes to SCUBA dive, I prefer to snorkel.), shopping (though my husband may not enjoy that as much as myself!!) If someone visits YOU in Aruba, what do you show them and where to you take them to eat?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Welcome to the forum..... and you're gonna love Aruba. Our favorite place to dine is Madame Janette's.... our favorite activity is hanging on the beach. Meeting folks and hanging out would be great at Bugaloe Beach Bar on the pier between the Hilton and Rui. There will be some us at Legends on July 5th at about 6ish if you wanna hang with some BB folks too! Burghboy, TeamAruba, Sue M, Aruba4ever and I all plan to attend with our 'others'.....!

BTW watch the 4th of July fireworks from the beach at the Hyatt around 9ish on the 4th.

Welcome to the forum. You will just love Aruba. For us, the beach is the draw and I can just spend all day there. Our very first visit we never left the resort! If you enjoy snorkeling I would suggest Aruba Bob snorkeling. Full disclosure I have never been but he gets rave reviews on this forum. The Black Pearl was more my speed, but it fills up very fast and availability in July is probably unlikely.

'Check out the culinary thread in this forum for restaurant reviews. To get you started, Barneys, West Deck, Madame Janette are all good, here are many, many more great restaurants to try.

AS CPJones posted there are people on the forum meeting at Legends in July. I'm actually jealous we won't be there to meet up!!!

Welcome. My favorite places to dine all involve the Ritz so I am a bad person to ask as my response is always BLT or Solanio, lol. Legends will be fun if you want to join us. Bugaloe is a fun place to hang out as cpjones has mentioned. You have a very nice restaurant at your location in the Sunset Grill. I have dined there many times and its always been very good.

welcome to the aruba.com community forum

happy anniversary :)

bugaloe right there on the beach near hilton is a great spot for drinks and hanging out.

i encourage you to visit the culinary section and see what folks are talking about re: their favorite dining.

we also need to know what you are looking for re: dining. fancy? beachfront? inexpensive? child friendly?

when we have a first timer with us:
beach at lacabana (eagle)
dinner at Madame Janette for a bit upscale and for relaxed inexpensive Hung Paradise
by auto: lighthouse, alto vista chapel, fallen down natural bridge , baby beach, dog cemetery, arikok national park

snorkel..baby beach and catalina cove in malmok area.

Legends is also a great place to land on Friday nights when they have live music at 8.

Don't worry. The list will get long, so you'll be making many return trips.

For a first timer, if you are adventurous we had a great time renting a side by side 2 seater utv from George's cycles and drove all over the island. Do the all day rental, check out other beaches, eat off the beaten path, explore the Arikok National park. If you want to explore but aren't interested in going out on your own, a jeep tour can easily be booked once you are on the island.

Hi! Welcome to the Aruba.com Community Forum & Happy Anniversary!!

Check out arubabob.com for snorkeling tours. I love to bring first time visitors on a car ride tour of the island. The colors just driving up the coast are AMAZING! The Gold mine ruins by the fallen natural bridge are awesome to explore & take pics sitting in the window. Alto Vista Chapel & the lighthouse. Just driving around & getting lost is fun (because you can't really get lost and the sights are amazing and the people of Aruba are so nice & friendly).

Oh my goodness! Thank you all so much for the warm welcome and great suggestions! July 5th is actually my husband's birthday, so I'll ask him how he feels about making some new friends on his birthday. I think dinner with some Aruba experts sounds like great fun!

I did forget to mention that one thing I do on nearly every trip I take is horseback riding. Can anyone recommend a reputable stable for a beach ride?

Thanks again so very much!

here is a link to some reputable stables. http://www.aruba.com/things-to-do/horseback-riding

most of aruba horses are crosses of paso fino and quarterhorse or paso and mustang.

i have ridden often in aruba
i prefer the private tour and recommend early morning riding before it gets too hot

6pm is the plan. It looks like we may have a good size grouping heading out on the 5th. See you then!
