In the last 2 weeks we have received in the form of a booklet questionnaire, a mandatory form and demand to provide to the tax department a full disclosure of all our property in Aruba and elsewhere, along with income, assets, bank account info in Aruba and abroad. I received one and my wife has also received one. We are not residents of Aruba. The explanation given is that they are collecting this for all. property owners\
\
Has anyone else received this yrt. The period covered is for 2019. I am told it applies to residents and non residents who own property.

John

Was this sent to your Aruban address or home? We have not received anything at home and have no idea if there is anything in Aruba.

We have not heard anything yet, but all of our tax related mail goes to the management company. We’ll chime in if we do.

I just sent an email to our management company to ask about it. I'll let you know what they say.

The questionnaire is 8 pages long I wish I could post it. I am getting more info and will share what is pertinent. I received mine yesterday and my wife about a week ago

Sounds a bit suspicious, John. Maybe worth a call to the tax department directly to confirm it's legit and not some kind of scam? Will be interesting to hear what Robin and other owners find out.

Andrea...I was incorrect...it is a 12 page booklet. It is from Dept Impuesto

Title ( in Dutch) AANGIFTE
inkomstenbelasting
buitenlandse belastingplichtigen.

Vervaldatum ( return date) 2 Dec 2020

I had Dutch friends interpret the title...Roughly it reads Income statement for non residents. Maybe others here on forum who know Dutch can confirm this.

I have spoken to the tax dpt. It is for real. They want this info if as a non resident you are deriving any income. I have told them I file taxes in Canada annually and have a notice of assessment showing we owe no taxes. See where it goes.

I have taken pics of all 12 pages of questions and asked Andrea if it is possible to send them to her or post them

I haven't heard anything yet, but if they want me to fill something out, they better send it in English.

I never received any request from you asking to send them to me.
You can scan them and then post them to the forum.

This sounds like the 2019 income tax form that our tax specialist has told us to expect.

I asked my property manager and she mentioned that few more clients of her did receive similar booklets. Which she passed to their bookkeeper. She says that this related to the vacation rentals properties. Now government trying to get as much money as possible so they collecting this from non- residents, especially who applied for Health Check from DVG.

Anyone earning income from a rental property in Aruba should be collecting and remitting the 9.5% Tourist Tax and $3 per day Lodging (environmental) tax. You should also be filing an annual tax return with the Aruban tax department which is what that booklet is for.

This is nothing new and no different than declaring your income in your home country.

Yes, their forms are all in Dutch, which is the official language of the country.

John. It's not about thec9.5 or $3 day Tourist tax that concerns me. It is the request for income derived outside of Aruba....pension, mortgage income, bank account info , and a lot more. To me it reeks of double taxation

You are only subject to be taxed on your income outside of Aruba if you are a resident.

Very strange if they are asking for that info from non-residents.
