    Jolly Pirates

We are planning our sons birthday in Aruba and one of the things he wants to do is the Jolly Pirate Cruise followed by dinner at BLT so he can have his lobster. I am a little worried that the Jolly Pirate trip is not what he is expecting at all. For those that have been will an 8yr kid enjoy it? Its 3 hours and I am not sure he is going to be into it...love to hear others thoughts. I am thinking other than the cool boat and the captain wearing a pirate hat there probably is not much more "kid" stuff, am I wrong?

Jay, I don't know if it would work or not. Most time these trips can get pretty rowdy. My kids have been on JP cruises and they really enjoyed it, but they were in their late 20's at the time. Black Pearl is an awesome snorkel trip, mostly adults, but we've been on sails with younger children. It's a very relaxed trip and everything is provided of course. It leaves from the same pier as JP near Moomba. I think you and the family would really enjoy it, but warn the twerp there are no pirates...

The other option is go carts...it would be the first day he was "old" enough to go. I am voting for go carts but we will do what ever the twerp wants, lol.

jay i agree with walt re: the jolly.
liquor and noise and 20somethings and rope swing and snorkeling.
    real fun for many.

is he a snorkeler? if so, he will like it.

my suggestion: how about depalm island?
water park that is geared for kids, snorkeling, zip line, food

    Jacki's kids LOVED Depalm
    I love Depalm

There were kids on board when we did the Black Pearl and they were having a blast. The crew let the kids jump off the side of the boat which did surprise me a bit, but the kids loved it. They also thoroughly enjoyed the grilled cheese sandwiches. Has your son snorkled before?

He has "snorkeled" with a mask around palm beach and enjoys it. That said, he may get freaked out if the fish were big and he is not a big fan of loud noise so that will be a turn off as well.

He knows and asked about it...so I now need to change his mind. I like the idea of doing the black pearl on a different night other than his birthday. I want to do the go carts and the dinner he picked, lets see how good I am at helping him change his mind.

Jay.... you'll be able to make it work for the go carts.... but I like Andrea's thought on Depalm Island for CJ..... that offers lots of stuff to do for little people.

I like either one better than the "booze" cruise. I enjoy my drinks but its not my scene at all and never really did.

Jay, we have done JP quite a few times. I'd say it was about 50/50 if I would want a kid there. it really varies by the crowd and you have no control over that. We've had boozy, wild dancing, slightly raunchy even, and lots of innuendo, but we also had a couple calm trips. The pirates are great woth kids and usually show them special attention.
The first snorkeling site at Antilla can be rough and not as fun for an inexperienced snorkeller.

I've seen a boat out there I don't know the name of it I think maybe the dolphin? But it has a water slide off the side and looks like it may be more suited for kids but I'm really not sure maybe someone else has seen it and can help?
what about looking into the splash park over by Surfside Beach as an alternative to jolly pirates?
