    Carte Blanche Restaurant

can anyone tell me about this restaurant in Aruba? A co-worker of mine just told me about it when he found out I'm going to Aruba this Sunday. He's never been there and frankly, I've never heard of it either. Has anyone dined there? I understanding it is a very exclusive, Chef's table type of dining experience. Is it worth it?

    Thanks.
    Brian

We went when they first opened. Very expensive but it is an experience. Seating is for 14 people with multiple courses that are chef’s whim. When you reserve you can tell them of anything you can’t or won’t eat. We had a nice group and everyone interacted. The food was wonderful. There are a few other restaurants with the same concept; Fred and 2 Fools and a Bull. Not sure if both are open as there were changes in chefs. Also, there is Senses at the Bucuti

These restaurants fill up quickly and usually book months ahead. They do, however, have wait lists in case someone cancels.

We have been there several times since they opened around 9 years ago and each time was wonderful! It does help to be adventurous with your food though. Other restaurants in Aruba that we've been to with a similar concept (and equally as good): 2 Fools and a Bull, Fred, and Senses. (There was a change in ownership at 2 Fools but all are open.)

I have heard nothing but good things, but my husband is not interested in a dinner that is a 3-4 hour experience so I will never know. If you aren't sure about the chef's table type experience, they also own Wilhelmina which has a more traditional experience and menu menu. https://www.wilhelminaaruba.com/--

I'm with your husband. My husband would not go for a 3-4 hour experience. Plus I'm not going to make a reservation 6-12 months in advance for any restaurant. I want to dine from a menu that I can "see" and eat what I want for that night (fine dining or casual. I'm not a budget diner) and at the time that I want. Sometimes I'm an early diner and some nights at a later hour.

we did something like a "carte blanche" dining experience on our most recent cruise.
it was long and drawn out....way too long.
no choice in the meal, it is all the chef's decision.
while I liked everything served, my husband and a couple of the other people in our group did not.........and my husband wound up having pizza room service at 11 pm.
I think people should try it once.........knowing that
    1) it is long
    2) your dining mates might be boring braggarts and may think even less of you (hence 3 hrs of social nightmare)
    3) the food, may not be to your liking . (the one on the ship, the main course was a salmon dish and half the group did not like salmon)
