Snowbird from NH planning to sell in Florida and buy in ARUBA

Hello everyone I have many many questions to ask since deciding to make Aruba our snowbird home.
Glad I found this forum and Thank You ahead of time for any feedback for my questions.
We Plan to get to Aruba late Jan early Feb to look for a condo/townhouse . So lookin at everything online, I'm interested in the
area around Malmok and the Gold Coast community. Anybody here live there or know anything about that community ?
If you own a car and have a townhouse, what would you do with the car when you leave for 6 months?
The transfer tax at closing, is that 3% of the first $142k and then 6%... or is it 6% of the entire sale if it is over $142k period.
Ok that's it for now with questions. More to come so Thank You all for being here
BTW...any baseball fans? Well I'm loving the playoffs with My 2 hometown teams ..Tampa Rays / Boston Red Sox .
Don't know who to cheer for so I'm going for the Rays and hubby is taking the Sox

another welcome to the aruba.com community forum

we had considered Aruba for retirement as snowbirds in 2009, but wound up choosing FLA as year round.

we are Sox fans as well as Rays fans. love them both.
we really are very much Bucs and Pats fans. we are Brady and Gronk fans.

I hope that others will be able to give you some suggestions/guidance.

Pls visit the Moving to Aruba section of the community forum and ask those same questions there.

We have a condo at Oceania and are there 3 months of the year. We did purchase a car. For the first few years we rented garage space at the Toyota dealership and then we were able to purchase a garage on our property. Many people just use a good car cover and make sure it is tied down tight.

    Thanks for the feedback Robin.
We might just see how it goes the first year and either rent a car or use maybe bikes and public trans. and uber.
Think the first year anyway we will be there Jan till end April. Not sure what the cost of renting a car would be?
Does anyone here rent a car long term?
I have a small dog so looking at Gold Coast community and or a townhouse that is pet friendly. I'd rather have a place that I can come in
and out ezpz with Lola. Does anyone care to share anything they may know about the GC community?
    Thanks PC

When we closed, back in 2017, it was 6% on the sale price, but we were allowed to deduct any furnishings that were included.

We purchased a car in 2019 and keep it on the property under a cover. With the sun and wind, expect to get a couple of years out of the cover before it needs to be replaced.

Prior to the pandemic, discounted long term rentals in high season were few if any, as the demand was so high. Not sure what it would be like now.

There is no Uber or Lyft on the island.

We looked at Gold Coast a few years ago, but have no experience there. We wanted to be closer to the Eagle Beach area, so we never got serious about the location.

Thanks for the feedback. We thought about buying a car but wasn't sure if we could cover it and leave in our space.
No ubers and probably no long term rental cars so Taxi, public trans, and bikes maybe for the first year.
