Nice start to vacation, Ace. We’re always tired on our first night and tend to have a bite at the resort. Plenty of time to head out the rest of the week.

Day 2. 12/16. So far I'm loving the Aruba Phoenix. My first time at this resort and my first time near the high rise area.

As exhausted as I was the day before my trip and the day I arrived here, I woke up at 5am this morning which is 4am in NY. I stayed up waiting for the sunrise so that I can go for a walk but it was still pitched black at 6am. So I went to the gym at 615 am and walked on treadmill for 30 minutes. I was on my balcony at 650am and I took a look and saw the Palapa hoggers hanging towels. So I took the elevator down to secure mine at 7am. I ordered a croissant breakfast sandwich from deli which was very good and filling. I took it to go and ate it at a table area at the beach. The chains for the chairs were unlocked shortly after 7am and all the Palapa morning hogger grabbed their chairs. By 730 I was done with breakfast, grabbed my chair and spent a wonderful day at the beach until 130pm. A few of the Palapa hogger came down 3 hours later. SMH.

At 130 went to the room. This room doesn't have a walk in shower. They have a shower head over a Jacuzzi that is a little high over my knees to get into. They have bars on the wall though so I figured it out. Instead of a shower I filled up the Jacuzzi and started the jets. Ahhh so relaxing..

For dinner I went to happy hour at Nos Club Huis at 5pm. I had 6 Long Island Ice Tea $3.50 each what a great deal! I had the Dutch bitterball which was a first for me and on Sundays they have a BBQ basket for dinner with chicken, grouper, and ribs, small salad and fries for $15. The view sunset is awesome from there. Tracy always recommended this place which I saw when I went on blue melody sunset cruise in March but never went to. What a nice hidden gem! The staff is mostly Dutch and so friendly. Nothing fancy for dinner but burgers, wings, calamari etc but they have Fresh caught fish there every day. The grouper I had was delicious and the real McCoy. The only thing I was not happy with was that the bartender didn't make an effort to get me a cab. I walked into Moomba and caught a glimpse of Mat who was very busy but I asked the front desk to call me a cab. I waited 15 minutes and nothing. Lucky for me a cab was dropping someone off and I grabbed it.

Once back at Divi Phoenix I went to the deli and grabbed a rum raisin gelato for dessert to eat on balcony while I wrote this report.

I actually had a reservation at the resort fancy restaurant Pure Ocean but since I was well rested from sleeping at the beach, I felt like going out and I'm glad I did. Oh I saw the Aloe man at the beach!

    This concludes lazy day 2.

Glad you got a chance to get down there and liked it - we didn't make it this year. Their Sunday BBQ special always looks good when they post it on Facebook.
One thing we have found in the high rise area is that you can always get a cab at Holiday Inn lobby. When we stay at Playa Linda we usually end up walking over there because there is usually one waiting. So if you find yourself down in that area again, sometimes its just easier to walk through Holiday Inn to get a taxi.

Sounds like a great start to the trip! I hope you enjoy the Divi Phoenix. My good friend Sebastian works there as a manager- he oversees many of the restaurants depending on the day. If you see a young man named Sebastian tell him Jay from Boston says hello.

Ace, We always love your trip reports. Thanks for listing the prices too- good to know. We needed to get back to Aruba after the great tip rports the past couple weeks. Too funny--- "the Papala Hoggers". It is weird that some rush to set up a papala and come so late or are barely there.
    Thanks so much,
    Sean and Susan
