Safe travels! Thank you so much for your trip reports. I've been behind, but I know that anxiety feeling you get when it is time to go home, and I hate it.

I hope the customs line picks up and you get the chance to have a drink with Alex and Glenn at One Happy Bar, or better yet, maybe in the VIP lounge.

38 min US Customs to the VIP lounge.
Lounge is packed. No seating. We will grab a sandwich and head to the gate.

Thanks for taking us all along on your trip. Surprised to hear that there was such a long wait to check in for your flight and to get through customs. Especially as you flew out during the week and not on a Saturday or Sunday. Safe flight and drive home, and once again, thanks!!!

    Last Day Thurs Dec 12

We slept in! (Well, does 8:05 count?)
I had considered doing another load of laundry, but we took an inventory and we were still good on clean clothes, so Paul and I opted not to do it…..packed it in a few Lings bags and shoved in the rolling duffle.

We opted to drive thru town as traffic had not been bad over the 2 weeks.
That new Watty Vos is just wonderful and is taking a lot of burden off of the downtown.
We lost count, but we think there are 10 roundabouts from the airport………thru the Watty Vos and ending at Sun Plaza intersection.
Remember to yield to those already in the rotary!

Dropping the car off to Hans was easy and painless and he dropped us at the airport.

Speaking of the airport, the lines for the first security stop (after Aruba Immigration) was long….It was formed all the way out to under the awnings. By the time we got inside I was in a full melt down panic attack. (aka huge anxiety…I was nauseous, tingly and sweating). We were partway down the line b4 that security stop when Paul pulled over a security person and said “my wife is having a panic attack, please help”.
We were pulled from the line, given a spot to sit while the line moved. When the people that were originally in front of us were at the checkpoint, the security man put us back in the line and we went thru the xray etc.
The same security person walked with us to the US CUSTOMS area and that line was long too…it snaked around 4 or more times and there were only 2 agents working. The security man, got me seated and when he felt it was time for us to get our turn right behind the people that had been ahead of us the whole time, he led us up to the Customs officer. I never cut the lines, we just were pulled from the crowds where I was melting down.
Disclosure………this has happened to me numerous times at Disney……when the lines are long and it is hot………and the lines are inside.
Lifeboat drill on a cruise, no can do……….yup, I will go down with the ship.

So, moral of the story if you need to get out of the line for your sanity or whatever reason, just ask for help. Everyone was gracious or helpful and did not make fun of me to my face.

SWA AUA to FLL was fine..smooth and on time.
If we wind up with headcolds, it is because of the plane full of coughing and nose blowing people. I was shocked by the amount of coughers. A man 2 rows across from us………sprayed Lysol all around his space before others joined him in the row. We did a fair amount of gagging from the spraying. Paul had the aisle and I had the window. The seat in between us was open. A woman across the aisle painted her fingernails. That smell was a little annoying to many….i am used to it as I go every 2 or 3 weeks. People were complaining loudly. I was thinking, “boy I better make my appointment soon because my
claws are looking kind of ratty”

The drive from FLL to Lakeland was long and terrifying.
During the day we go Rte 60 to the Fla TPK, but Rte 60 is tough in the dark.
So on the route home we went thru Alligator Alley which is about 100 miles of nothing but swamp and probably the headquarters for the KKK and other offensive groups. There was a traffic tie up on I-75 and we then chose (google maps chose actually) to go on an even scarier route….a 2 lane very dark road from Bonita Springs up to Lakeland, bypassing the stopped traffic on I 75. It was like the movie Deliverance. We went over numerous RR crossings…no flashing light things, no arms that come down, just a sign saying RR crossing and train will blow horn. ‘Nuf Said. We lived. We made it into our house a few minutes after midnight……..unscathed physically. Emotionally, I had just about had it. I took a shower, brushed my teeth and then took a BIG MOTRIN and washed it down with Fireball and went to bed.

Brief Overview.........We love the time period after Thanksgiving and before Christmas.
It is way more quiet than Winter.
We loved the new roads (even the roundabouts were not horrendous)
The ocean water was about 81 degrees. Some days pretty wavy at Eagle and Arashi.
The casinos for the most part were cruel.
The winds were less frequent/strong than in May.. a few days where the winds were strong.
We got to see some friends and missed others
No turn on red is still the law But I try.
US Customs has to do a better job....Sorry that you had to have a meeting, but jeesh....don't let the staff meeting screw up the travelers.
The huge back up of travelers causing excessive lines was a result of a staff meeting of US Customs. Good God, have the meeting during an early morning.
    The Christmas decorations are beautiful.
    The Arubans are lovely people.

    The end

I applied for Global Entry 6 weeks ago but unfortunately they are backed up. Last trip the US Custom Lines were horrendous with only 2 Custom Agents working and 1 for Global Entry were a few zipped thru.

For a second there when I was reading the story of alligator road I was waiting for the UFO sighting. Are you sure that you and Paul were not abducted? LOL Anyway, welcome home...

You always do such great reports. Sorry about the panic attack but glad security was helpful!! We’ve done Alligator Alley but never at night. That road is just endless! I’m sure it felt good just to get home.

Glad we had had a chance to catch up on Aruba!
