    Aruba 2019 - Bradrobster - June 13th - June 23rd

First, my apologies for the delay in my posting. Increasingly with the stress of my job, Deb reminds me how important it is to truly try and disconnect. That said, I still like to try and take the time to share our trip as so many others have done. It has helped us so much now for 18 years, we hope what we share can provide entertainment and value to others.

    Travel Day 1 – Thursday , Jun 13th

Booked Jet Blue again for the 2nd time out of Raleigh. We did this last year and love the fact that there are not but a few departures for Jet Blue that the checkin at 5am is really easy and much less crowded. Took off on time, landed in FLL on time and left on time from FLL.
Flight to Aruba was smooth and uneventful. After arrival, we had the Aruba ED form that we did online, they looked at our printout and pointed us to the automated line. Within minutes, we were grabbing a bottle and the liquor store before leaving baggage claim.
Grabbed a taxi to the Hilton, new rate is $31 from airport.
Room at the Hilton was ready ! , we dropped our stuff, put on bathing suits and headed for Bugaloe!
Two fish baskets ( shrimp & fish, fries and salad) $15 each, with a few $4.50 Balashi Chills and we were good !
For Dinner, we went back to our favorite Azia, across from the Hilton. TNT Rolls, grilled octopus and Miso Salmon on the stone….amazing! Of course we had great cocktails from Abraham @mixologist_297 !

    Day 2 – Hilton
Pool time and Ocean with a decent palapa. Remember, at the Hilton you can go online or stand in line to get the palapa for the next day. It’s not perfect but works ok. Breakfast and lunch at Bugaloe, traditional American breakfast for me and breakfast Mediterranean sandwich for Deb. Of course, Mimosa’s and a Bloody Mary!
Lunch was fish basket for me and ceviche for Deb. Very windy today, had to eat “close to the plate” to avoid “blowage “ !
For dinner, we hit our other Fav, Casa Tua. I had escargot and Deb had beef carpaccio and then we shared the fruti Del Mar seafood pizza- Casa Tua is consistently good food, hence tomorrow’s dinner report..lol

Day 3 – Hilton Again- Saturday
Repeat Pool and beach time and repeat Bugaloe breakfast. For Lunch, we decided to venture out to Local Store. We had never been there but had read many positive reviews. We had burgers and a small basket of Balashi bbq wings….all very good..also had the Funchi fries which, for those who don’t know are homemade polenta fries with shaved Gouda …hard to beat….very good! My burger also had the Balashi bbq sauce on it, I wish they would sell this stuff, it is really good!
Dinner, we opted for ease and comfort as Casa Tua was right across from the Hilton and after staying in the ocean literally till the sun went down, it was 8:30pm so we had the gnocchi Bolognese and the broccoli sausage pasta. Consistently good.
Also picked picked up the car from Budget at their office over in Palm Beach right beside Sopranos piano bar, good experience, we have been renting from Budget for 18 years… maybe pay a little more but the experience has always been positive.

Day 4- Transition Day to Marriott Ocean Club- Sunday
We are checking out of the Hilton today and have family flying in, and we are going to pick them up from the airport.

Got up and did another walk up the beach walkway from the Hilton to the low rise area and then back to Bugaloe for breakfast. It was Fathers Day and Bugaloe had a breakfast buffet for $15 a person so we opted for that. Very good and the view was amazing as always!
After checking out, we headed directly to our home away from home, The Marriott Aruba Ocean Club !!!
Since it was almost 1pm, our primary room was ready so we quickly put up our groceries ( beer, deli meat, mixers, snacks, etc) , unloaded our clothes and other stuff and then headed out to WestDeck for lunch to wait on our family to arrive! Did a quick Superfoods run on the way for beer, booze, snacks and stuff. Love Superfood but Sunday afternoon at 1pm was a crazy nuthouse.
WestDeck was really tasty, I had the fried grouper fingers and Funchi with melted Gouda, Deb had the fish sliders with their macaroni salad.
We picked up the family from the airport and headed back to the Ocean club. Grabbed them a quick bite for them at the Marriotts Ocean side bar and met up with our friend Gabriel that works there.
Dinner was back to Azia for Fathers Day night! We had Sushi rolls ( TNT is my favorite), Salmon, wonderful Smokey old fashions , Udon, Mongolian beef. Everything was amazing and delicious!
Back to the ocean club for drinks on the balcony.

    Monday – June 17th
Got a late start after sleeping in a bit. Did some light breakfast sandwiches with the deli meat we had gotten at SuperFood.
Got our usual Palapa near the back as we don’ t like the up front craziness. For those curious about the Ocean Club Palapa situation, I can confirm that they did remove some of them from the center but it seems as if all they did was move them to other locations as the already had the space. The map is all over the place, 100’s to 400’s numbering seem to be now all intermingled. Luckily, this particular time of year it is not an issue as the crowds are still very small but that will change next week when more schools get out.
For lunch we decided to try the new Malmonk beach bar/restaurant which is just a new name for the same place. We were skeptical but actually were very impressed, even more so that the Marriott’s ocean bar. We had the Tuna poke salad, shrimp cocktail and Caesar salad, buffalo wings, grilled tuna salad..all were very, very good. Will ensure they get the positive feedback as the difference in food quality from the last few years is dramatic.
We did the Blue Melody with everyone starting at 4pm. We normally do this ever year when we are here. It is the most laid back chill sailing/snorkeling/sunset cruise that we have done. There were only 13 on our trip so it was a great time. Grill cheeses were good as ever, I know many people like the Jolly Pirates so this is a great other option for those that want a smaller, more chill trip.
After we got off the boat, we hit the hot tubs to finish watching the sunset that was a bit muted as we have had a bit of overcast time. That is actually fine because the temp’s have been in the low 80s with lower humidity. Nights have been amazing with a great breeze so not hot at all. This has been one of the most comfortable trips in years!

More to come as I catch up !!

Brad, thanks for the info. We arrive on July 14th at the Surf Club. If you like Poke Bowls, you should try Eduardo's Beach shack, right along the walking path in front of the Playa Linda. We walk down there almost every day for lunch or snacks including Coco Whip frozen dessert with fruit (non dairy, non-sugar...totally delicious), smoothies, veg juices and protein balls. Amazing place!
We will have to check out the Blue Melody. Last time we were there we took a Catamaran cruise that was loaded with heavy drinking young people. Not a great environment with our 7 year old granddaughter. Hope you have an amazing rest of your trip!
