Today was a lazy day to recover from traveling yesterday. Headed to Lucy's downtown for a nice lunch sitting by the water. I had ordered diet coke for my drink since I always tend to overdo things on my first night in Aruba. I am a picky diet coke drinker and when it arrived it tasted like diet pepsi. But it would do. We then headed to the renassaince casino to lose some money. And then went to the downtown grocery store. They have really cleaned up the store and it only have another couple in there shopping. Could not locate any diet coke and found out that even though Aruba has a Coke company on the island they are only producing Coke zero. So that made sense why my soda did not taste right at lunch.

Decided to walk the beach to Surfside restaurant on the beach for dinner, but decided to stop for a drink at Pinchos and then ended up eating there again tonight. We wanted a dessert to share but the server talked us in for one each. Should have shared, but they were both really good. A couple years ago they built a couple parking lot bars across from Talk of the town which is mostly all locals, but we find it fun to stop in and they are always to welcoming. That is what we love above Aruba. Another great day!

That's too funny about the diet Coke. My wife and I just had a "Diet Coke in Aruba" conversation yesterday. Much like yourself , I'm a diet Coke connoisseur, I don't care for diet Pepsi or other diet cola drinks. My favorite diet Coke comes from McDonald's, I have no idea why, but I like it better from there than any other source. My wife was checking out what type of soda the stores sell in Aruba, as she will only drink Coke Zero. She tells me they sell Coke and Coke Zero, but not diet Coke, I chuckle and tell her she must be mistaken. I couldn't fathom a place that sells Coke products not selling diet Coke. Don't I feel silly now, I wonder if there are any underground black market areas on the island that can give a Coke addict their fix. lol.

I’m not a big soda drinker, but I do like a Diet Coke occasionally. This is what they sell now in the grocery stores. Don’t know why it posted sideways!!!

zero sugar is now the norm on aruba ..or is it called no sugar or sugar free? whatever it is........for the amount that I drink it was inconsequential.

we did see Diet Coke at Super Food in early Dec.

THINK.. is it Thoughtful? Helpful? Inspirational? Necessary? Kind? SIDTM

I'm enjoying this trip report. Ahhh Pinchos it's been a while. I have to agree that McDonalds Diet Coke does taste great to me and I also like the Diet Dr Pepper at Wendys. We turned the trip report into diet soda topic. LOL

The lack of Diet Coke on the island is causing The Spouse to melt down. I don't drink it here as the taste is very different from the Canadian version but he's all in. When it does magically appear in Superfood or Ling's, we go and pick up eight (minimum) cases.

Yeah, that wasn't planned for in the budget.

Funny you should mention that it taste very different in Canada, when I used to travel to Mexico the diet coke there tasted a whole lot different. I didn't care for the taste. Maybe it was the water. Who knows..

We had done the Coke headquarters tour in Atlanta years ago. They have rows and rows of soda that they produce for different countries. It is kinda like around the world coke flavors. They change the flavor for most countries. I only tried a couple since they were completely different tastes. My son was young and wanted to try as many as he could and even was mixing some of them together. I warned him it will make him sick, and that it did!

Coke and McDonalds got together years ago.... and yup there is a specific water/syrup ratio, exacting amounts of ice and temperature control. For the 3 or 4 Cokes I have each year..... McDonalds is the go to place. No one treats a fountain drink more seriously!
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the best of men!

I've heard the size of their straw also plays a part in it.

From what I understand Coke uses corn syrup in the US, and cane sugar in Mexico and many other parts of the world. It appears cane sugar makes for a better tasting Coke. I didn't know it, but apparently Mexicans drink more sugary drinks than any other people in the world, and it's causing serious health problem for them. They're known for having a "Coke addiction" in particular. Per capita, I would have bet anything the US consumed more sugary drinks than any other country in the world.
