"waddled" your way back to the Marriott.............WHAT no crepes?

I am enjoying your Aruba Story. Thank you!

I do not know for the life of me why people have to be such "turds" with their complaints.
You and your friends handled it with class and kindness.
And the others.......... such bad behavior.

    In Aruba.............
I often find myself apologizing for others' bad behaviors (strangers mostly) mostly directed towards resort staff.

Oh, did I forget to mention the Creme Brulee we had at Azzuro?

Really enjoying your report, I wish you were there for two weeks! I get so irritated with people that bitch about everything on vacation, I stop just short of calling them what they are. If they are that demanding and miserable on vacation, I can only imagine their home life. So glad you treated the staff at Marriott graciously and glad they returned the gesture. That's typical Marriott service and true island karma.

I'll never understand people who are so uptight on vacation. We have a few around us who complain if there is a cloud in the sky, never mind construction going on. You are right, the work needs to be done sometime, just have to bear with it.

That said, I'd be able to ignore the noise and take a nap right there too :-)

Maybe they charged the rude guest for your lunch! LOL! He deserved it. Just no excuse for that kind of attitude.

You are so right about the rum punch special and those are very tall glasses. Just don't drink too many or else you will have to climb down that small latter below deck to use the bathroom.

Great trip report. Thanks fir the recipe. I think many of us will try it. Glad you are enjoying the beach, water and great food.that makes for a perfect vacation. We have also enjoyed The Black Pearl. Joanne and Albert are the best. You won’t find another grilled cheese like she makes. The punch is pretty tasty as well.

    Thursday August 30th
Sadly, TODAY, was that day. The last full day of vacation. We had plans for more beach time, more Happy Hour, and more lunch on the beach. And, I’m pleased and proud to say, we managed to check all those items off our to-do list for the day.
We had managed to snag a reservation at Oak for tonight for the 6 of us, on the terrace. I know it has gotten some mixed reviews, but we VERY much enjoyed it. On the advice from our cab driver from the airport, the hotel concierge, and our lobby bar waiter, we decided to cab it to Oak. The distance was definitely walkable, but given we’d have to negotiate the roundabout and cross the busy street by the Marriott, and it was through a residential neighborhood that we did not know much about, we decided to heed the advice. The neighborhood itself was fine, but there were minimal sidewalks, and nearly non-existent street lights, so we definitely made the right call.
Turns out we had the irrepressible Ricardo himself taking care of us tonight. What a lovely man he is. We had some appetizers, caprese salad, and a couple of orders of the sizzling clams and mussels. Now, for drinks, my husband is typically a Guinness drinker. NOT the easiest brew to find at the restaurants we’ve been going to. However, when he was given the list tonight, he may or may not have gasped in delight when Guinness was mentioned. I had a delicious Capirinha, and there were various glasses of wine as well.
Entrees up next. At our table we had a couple of Caribbean Lobsters, 2 Surf and Turfs, 1 Peppercorn steak, and 1 Argentinean Mix Grill. EVERYONE thoroughly enjoyed their dinner. No dessert tonight after dinner, and we were too far from the Crepe Hut, so it might turn out to be Gelato back at the Marriott a bit later.
After dinner, everyone was given a small shot of Orangecello. WOW was this good. I love a good Limoncello, and this was just delightful.
After a completely enjoyable evening, the restaurant called 2 cabs for us, and we were on our way back to the Marriott.
The Patriots were playing in their final pre-season game, so the guys decided they were going to find the sports bar next door, and see if they could catch the end of the game. I decided to stay in the lobby, have a drink, and people watch (One of my all time favorite passtimes)

    Friday September 30th
Departure day for us. The Final Four would be leaving tomorrow, but we were leaving today. Our flight was at 1:51pm, and our plan was to leave the Marriott by 10:15 or so, to account for any traffic, and still give ourselves 3 hours at the airport. Finished getting the bags sorted, and popped down to have our final Starbucks breakfast. Then out to the beach to squat with our friends under their palapas for an hour or so until it was time to zip the bags, check out, and head to the airport. We left right around our target time of 10:15, and we arrived at the airport at 10:39am. We were sitting at the gate at 11:20. So on a Friday morning, it took us 40 minutes to get through everything. We do travel with carry on only, so we did not have to check bags and reclaim them, but all in all, 40 minutes was not bad.
We got to board fairly early, as we had the Even More Space seats, but it was like an obstacle course to get from our seats, to the jetway and boarding, because of ALL.THE.PEOPLE just lined up, waiting to board. One thing, I just don’t get. The plane isn’t going anywhere until everyone’s on, sit and be comfortable until they call you.
Flight took a bit longer than usual, as they had us swing out Eastward, to avoid flying directly over Hurrican Dorian, so we were out over the ocean a lot longer, and came into Logan from the east. Slightly bumpy as we started the descent to Boston, but all in all, another easy, comfortable flight.

    FINAL THOUGHTS

    • There are already plans afoot to stay for 10 days next year!
    • We did not have a single “bad” meal. There were a couple that were good, not great, but nothing was bad, and we would go back to every place we went to this year.
    • I’m continually struck by how gracious, kind, and friendly everyone at the Marriott is. These folks deal with some less than understanding guests, and continue to be professional
    • We’ve already upped our ‘vacation fund’ deductions for next year, as we like to have the flight and hotel paid off before we hit the island. That way the only bill waiting for us when we get back is for our food/incidentals that we did not pay cash for. We did put more than usual on our credit card this year, but we were playing the airline points game. We put dinners on our card, and everyone else threw some cash at us.
    • Next year, I am going to INSIST we go to the Market when we have our room at the Marriott. Stock up on a few snacks, some soda, and some beer that my husband likes. And sunscreen. Lots and lots of sunscreen.
    • We absolutely adore this island, and we have not even begun to scratch the surface of Life outside the Beach. I’m typically laid off from November to March, and my husband has 6 weeks of vacation. We’re toying with the idea of renting a house/villa for 2 weeks in the winter of 2021 and see how we like it.

I think this wraps it up. I’ll have to start taking better notes for next year’s trip. If anyone has any specific questions about the few things we did, or places we ate, I’m happy to try to help
