OK.... yesterday was a repeat day.... One good thing that happened is that Patty finished the last 2 chapters of her course and wrote her summary.... she's done ahead of schedule.... and now can relax.... if she ever does that!

Dinner at Matthews.... wonderful atmosphere and Patty loves it with the ocean waves crashing. She talked me into the ribs and I was very surprised at how good they were. We've been here before and will do it again.

I keep reflecting back on conversations with a taxi driver the other night. He was quite frustrated and angry with the prior administration giving out permits for 7000 rooms and all the corruption with that. He did indicate that 4000 were recinded but they're still stuck with permits for another 3000 new guest rooms to be built. That boggles my mind..... that would be 7 1/2 new Hiltons. Fortunately I think they are limiting construction to small boutique style hotels. I do remember reading about all this on the forum some time ago....but didn't delve into it too deeply. Amazing all the growth over the years and the accelerated growth over the past few.

OK... so I did sit at a black jack table (notice BJ is spelled out) last night after dinner as soon as I got to the Glitz...… I had a fantastic run playing 2 hands at 20-25 per hand and was up 1000 in about 45 minutes...…. we dream of that kind of play. I cashed out and shoulda gone home...…. but I have no discipline and tons of greed so I played at another table for an hour...… gave some back.... ditto at video poker.... moved to Alhambra with the same dismal results and went back to our room around 1 with something to show for my gambling..... but not a lot!

Gotta go... overdue for the beach....!

    !
That's why expanding the airport is such a big deal and a necessary project for Aruba to complete. The demand to come to Aruba keeps growing and the government wants to encourage it, but without the infrastructure improvements (including the roads) the growth will be stunted.

I don't see how adding guest houses and small boutique style hotels will be able to meet the increased demand for more rooms though. There have to be more large complexes/ hotel operators waiting in the wings to build.

I'm not sure where the "tipping point" is where the Island becomes over developed and too commercialized like a Bahamas or DR. I guess that's the challenge the government faces in allowing for new permits for rooms, etc. The private sector will fill in the need for restaurants, transportation, guest services etc as the visitors grow.

I hope the Island maintains its character that continues to draw most of us there year after year, but who knows?

Happy 4th of July to all!

11 more sleeps til our return!!
    Brian

Have you done Matthews for breakfast? We have had a few good breakfasts there, and the price is reasonable for a sit down breakfast - until you add the mimosas

I hope Patty has enjoy a Manchito or two in between her hard work.

Thanks for the update on the hotel permits. Hopefully the government will listen to the people of the island and not the tourists and do what is best for THEIR people.

Yes Tracey.... a couple of Manchitos and she loves them.... but is basically a wine girl....her next drink adventure will be a Nacio Smiles..... but only when he's working!.....and we just don't bother with breakfast any more, just Kind bars and apples on the beach. Andrea.... happy to find the time for reporting.... just not any changes in our wonderful routine..... I'm so 2-dimensional!

Another perfect beach day yesterday.... and lunch at Pega Pega. Same routine... different day! Weather was perfect. No hatchings that we know about and I realized that most hatching happen at night. It was July 2 of last year that we did catch a hatching and would love to see another.

So.... Patty said she had the best meal of our trip at Pincho's last night for dinner.... and mine was pretty fantastic too! Couple of cocktails, Wahoo special for Patty and stuffed pork tenderloin for me..... and carrot cake for me.... and the total with a good tip was only 105. The atmosphere is wonderful overlooking the water... but seating is a bit close.... which promotes more new friends that you might like to have!

So predictably.... I ended at the Alhambra after dinner with plans to be back early..... so I dumped a buncho money at video poker.... and more at black jack (don't read bj!) Midnight came and I was ready to get my tail between the legs and go..... but I did see an black jack table with the seat open in the postition that I like and some OK looking players..... had a fantastic run playing 2 hands and by 1:30 had recovered all my losses and another 500 for my trouble.... bye...bye... gotta outta there real quick. My little fantasy now is to win enough at the machines and tables to prepay for another trip next year!

    Beach time.....!
