We found everyone to be very grateful that we were there too. And it was everyone, hotel personnel, restaurant waitstaff, and cab drivers. It was a good feeling. Have fun, enjoy your dinner at Flying Fishbone and keep your reports coming.

    Sunday 3/28-
As posted earlier, very smooth arrival and check in to the Aruba Surf Club.

1st thing I did was go to the beach to reserve the umbrella's by the water, for our stay (yes, it is an additional cost but beats the waiting online for Palapas at the Surf Club 2 days at a time). Its a good thing I went...they were just about gone for the week. I got the last one for Monday, at Audrey's tent and then for the next 5 days at Vanesa in Paradise's tent. The beach here was packed! The Surf Club pool was packed. Tone of kids and families here. It is break week and the families are coming back to Aruba. Good to see, but social distancing could be a challenge at some places.

Last night for dinner we walked down the high-rise strip to the Lobby restaurant across from the Hilton. We had 7pm reservations for a party of 5 including our friends 15 year old son who is with us. The manager seemed a bit concerned, when asking Jack his age, but sat us at a table for 5 which was set up for us. I'm not sure what happened to the" MAXIMUM of people at a table" rule that supposedly went into effect on Saturday here? Almost every table here at 4 people. Dinner was fine, but we weren't thrilled with our Mahi-mahi special. The stuffed mushrooms and the salads were good as was the lobster bisque soup. The Lobby burger looked amazing (jack's pick) and our server Lenka was awesome.

On the way back to the Surf Club we stopped at a "new place" near the dancing water fountains, called "the King of Churros". They were out of churros for the night (it was almost 9pm) but we tried the fried oreos with ice cream. Amazing!!

As we were leaving the plaza area at 9:15, we saw several police officers fanning out to make sure businesses were closing by the 9pm closing curfew. They are serious about this. I can only imagine what was going on at the casinos to make sure they were closing at 9pm.

Once we got back to the Surf Club, things were pretty quiet, although the Marketplace was open (we were told that the hotel/ timeshare amenities can remail open past 9pm).

A good 1st day in Aruba and a great night's sleep after our 3am wake up for our early flight.

    thank you.
sounds like that you are well on the way to being "immersed in vacation"

I believe that the manager of the Lobby had a right to be concerned re: Jack's age.
The maximum is 4 and a child at age 15 counts as a person.
12 and under does not count.
Here is from the ATA site:

    • A maximum of 4 adults can be seated together at a restaurant, indoor or outdoor. Children under the age of 12 are not counted towards the maximum.
Tables must be at least 1.5 m apart.

I am guessing that your group might run into more concerned managers as the week goes by.

So, the Surf Club is busy!!! Glad to hear that things are picking up!!!

    Have a blast and thanks!

We just received an Email from Tina at The Secret Garden, where we were scheduled for dinner (prepaid) this Thursday night.
she said that due to the new 9pm closing rules for all restaurants (and businesses) in Aruba they were suspending their service for the next 2 weeks. They said they had considered moving the time up to 5:30/6:00 pm start but felt this was too early (and too hot) to be conducive to the enjoyment of this tasting menu experience. She was very apologetic and said that refunds would be processed thru Eventbrite for our dinners. I feel badly for these restaurants and businesses in Aruba that seemed as if they had turned a corner to recovery are now sliding back to more restrictions and losing business.

we called Quinta del Carmen where we have reservations tonight for 7:30. They were glad we called and changed our reservation to 6:30 so we can enjoy dinner and not be rushed.

we will have to check with each restaurant for the rest of our trip to make sure timing and our reservations can be accommodated.

Glad you made it, not glad Surf Club is packed... maybe it will calm down some in the coming weeks. Like last trip it's just the two of us, so we should be good to go wherever we wind up.

Sorry to read that your dinner at the SECRET GARDEN had to be cancelled.
    Enjoy Quinta!

How is the masking up and protocols going at Surf Club?

Masking indoors at Surf Club is fine. At every automatic opening door there is an announcement being made to remember to put on a mask. People have been compliant with the single family per elevator rule and only will enter with us if we are all ok with it (and we usually are as all of us are vaccinated).
Went to Eduardos Beach shack today. Wow, they have really expanded. The Ahi Tuna Poke bowl was great and the coco- whip with acai and fruit was delicious. Their protein balls were great as always. They have a few places to eat there I clouding a large picnic table with every other seat indicated to not sit at to maintain. Social distancing except for families.

We went on a big mable water ride pulled by the speed boat today. It was just 3 of us from our group and the ride was awesome.

did a few laps around the lazy River late today and it was very uncrowded. Had drinks during happy hour at the, pool two for $18 and were huge margaritas served In tall glasses.

    will report on dinner later.
