Moomba is a great choice for a first night. You always feel a little out of it on the travel day getting up so early etc. Once you get into your routine the time flies! Enjoy every moment and your favorite restaurants!

Sunday was our first full day in Aruba – and it was a BEACH DAY!! I can’t possibly express the pure joy and happiness I feel whenever we return to the beach for the first time on our vacation. We went to Palm Beach and the weather was gorgeous. There was a wonderful breeze all day long. My husband and I both had a very hectic week at work leading up to this vacation so to spend a full lazy day of relaxation on the beach was absolute paradise! While on the beach I noticed that there is a very (positive) noticeable change in the tourists. Everyone on the beach and in the water is confident and jubilant and it is as if everyone is wearing a badge that says “I am vaccinated and I’m taking my life back”. This is our third trip since the onset of the pandemic (Sept 2020, Dec 2020 now June 2021) and in our two earlier trips, while tourists were very friendly with one another, they were still cautious around one another and more likely to keep to themselves. But on this trip, there is a change in that the “fear” is noticeably gone and all tourists seem empowered to take charge of their lives once again. Ah - the gift of vaccination! It is very wonderful to see (especially for tourism in Aruba).
After a full day of fun in the sun and a full bucket of Balashi Chills & Balashi Magic Mangos (the latter is my new favorite Aruba beer), we were ready for dinner. We opted to follow the recent recommendations on the Forum and visit the Bochincha container yard, across from the cruise port in downtown Oranjestad. We really enjoyed the fun atmosphere and the progressive rhythmic beat of the latin music. We asked our waiter what the word “Bochincha” meant and he told us it is a Papiamento word which loosely translates to “loud and crazy”. The name is fitting because everyone at their tables were swaying back and forth, in a dance-like motion, to the vibe of the music. There is a great variety of food offered from the different food vendors, the service was fast, and the cost is reasonable. The clientele was a wonderful blend of locals and tourists. The best part was that we could sit at our table and the waiter would bring us whatever we ordered from any of the food vendors so it was like 7 restaurants in one! We ordered a few appetizers from each menu to sample the variety. This place will be a HUGE hit once the cruise ships begin to bring passengers to Aruba again. We drove around for a bit after dinner to see all the activity on Eagle Beach & Palm Beach and then returned home. After a full day on the beach, my husband and I both slept so well – there is nothing like the restful sleep we can find on the happy island of Aruba.

We started shopping for some supplies that we needed for some home improvement projects. My husband and I love to visit the paint, hardware, and gardening stores in Aruba because it is as much fun as visiting the restaurants on the island. Because just like seeing your favorite waiter, bartender, or taxi driver in Aruba, the people that work at the stores in Aruba are veterans (worked at the stores for years) and they are always super helpful with tips and guidance on our projects. We are always amazed because no matter how long it has been since our last visit, someone in the store always recognizes us and walks up to say hello (and they’ll often ask about a prior purchase we made or project we worked on, so the familiarity is truly genuine). While Monday’s activities were house projects, we had a fun mix of Caribbean music playing in the background throughout the day while we enjoyed blue skies, palm trees swaying in the breeze, birds chirping in background, and we still honored happy hour at 4pm with some homemade banana daiquiris. It sure beat a day at the office!

So glad that happy hours survived with all else you were doing.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the best of men!
