I am five days in to my trip now. My apologies for the lack of frequent updates; I am mostly avoiding my electronics.

My days have been mostly lazy. I haven't done much beyond pool or beach time by day, casino by early evening.

My dining this week, while solo, has been totally unadventurous. In fact, a few days I have just thrown together a quick sandwich in my room. To squeeze in restaurant dining and a casino visit -- all before 8:45pm -- is a tall order.

Today, I had an afternoon visit to the Glitz Casino at La Cabana, where I met up with one of my Aruban umpire friends. It looks like I will be umpiring a game on either Tuesday or Wednesday next week at Pos Chiquito (between the airport and San Nicolaas).

After tonight's casino visit, I fell back to "even" after having been on the plus side the entire trip to this point.

I close the fifth day of my trip on a sad note. When I returned back to my room from my afternoon visit with my buddy, I turned on the TV and was shocked to see a picture of a person I knew -- the US Capitol police officer who was killed today. He was from my hometown and I umpired his baseball games from the time he was nine years-old through high school. RIP Officer Billy Evans.

Thanks for taking time to check in. Sorry for the loss of your friend. Mental disease is such a horrendous problem in the US and it so often claims lives unnecessarily.
