My new job does not offer vacation time prior to your one year anniversary date. I was offered 5 vacation days which is very generous. During the Christmas part I won a vacation day! I submitted my vacation request early in January, hoping for 6 paid days & 5 unpaid. Our timeshare is Friday-Friday. My 2nd week was denied entirely. I was CRUSHED. Apparently there is a mandatory manager's meeting during that week that I must attend. This meeting is during the same week every year. I'm not sure what I am going to do next year.....

I've been insanely depressed about "only" going to Aruba for a week. I didn't even book flights until the beginning of July. I didn't want to go if I couldn't be there "MY" whole time. Silly, right?

My father cut the tops of a few fingers off in the lawn mower a few months ago. Things have not been well since. Massive infections traveling up the arm, in the shoulder, neck, brain. He's been in a rehab facility for a few weeks and was just released this past Friday with a diagnosis of dementia in addition to many other issues. Yesterday my mom decided they are not able to travel. Thankfully she FINALLY listened to me and got trip insurance. Thank you Andrea for making me realize just how important trip insurance really is.

My Sisters In Law who fell in love with Aruba and La Cabana because of us have bought a second timeshare so they can be there for the full 2 weeks with us....only we won't be there for 2 weeks this year. BUT we turned that into a positive and rented my 2nd week rooms to Ann's nephew & the other to a friend of theirs so they will get to introduce some newbies to our beautiful home away from home (yes, that too made me sad).

So now on to happy stuff. I am finally getting excited. I just started packing. It's only a week so we are packing VERY light. I plan on doing not much more than sitting my fat butt on that beautiful beach and taking in & enjoying every single second of the island vibe.

My house/dog sitter came to pick up keys yesterday. I trained her on Louie's meds (my mini doxie, Louie, is dying - we were told he wasn't going to make it through the night if we took him out of the hospital - that was in November. He's still happy and wagging his tail and still has life behind his eyes, but he's old & gray and tires easily - just like most of us!) The foster pups are going to a vacation home tomorrow and the packing is starting.

That is just a little of what has been going on around here lately. It's been rough. I can not wait to get to Aruba and really hope time stands still for just a little while. I want to fully enjoy the sun, sand, surf and the incredible family time Aruba affords us every year! My babies are all getting so big and are spreading their beautiful strong wings and I'm missing them. My husband has been working nights for a year now - we only see each other on Sat & Sun. I don't know what it's going to feel like to see them all - my whole world - every single day, all day for a week! I am so happy and thankful for that!

You’ve had a challenging year. So sorry to hear about your father. I’m glad to hear you are getting to Aruba even if it’s only for a week. You will have time to regroup and reenergize and enjoy your family.

    WOW, what a year indeed.
I am sorry to read of your dad's difficulties and I hope that his dementia does not progress rapidly.

I understand too about you "not wanting" to go if "only" for a week. I get it.

I was thinking that your boys' football practice schedules would interfere with Aruba.

Will it be just you 2 and the 3 kids or will Bri have to work?

Glad that the dog is still plugging along like my baby Belle. They are like the energizer bunnies.

So, get a ton of fun in and much relaxing.

    ENJOY

Brianna is coming for the whole week It will be my 5, my sisters in law Law Laurie & Ann, Laurie's best friend Stacey & her husband.

Michael is actually happy it is only one week because of football. He won't have to deal with coaches having issues with him being gone. There are not many football kids coming up. Only 6 freshman, so Michael was asked to be the starting Frosh QB while still being the back up for JV. Pretty cool Jason is my soccer kid and this being his senior year he is not very happy about missing any practice time, but he will survive. He's not the best soccer player and it's not really his whole life, but he does enjoy being there.

Quite a year... good luck with your Dad. I'm sharing the 'old dog syndrome' with you and Andrea... and I'm sure others... we love them for a lotta years and they do get old, tired, grey and develop ailments. I'm amazed at the amount of money we spend on ours each month to keep her happy, comfortable.... and alive! Life does have some serious ups and downs.... savor every moment of your trip.

I am so sorry about all the many issues you have had recently, especially your dad. Your week with your family is something that will help the spirits and something you more than deserve after this year. Enjoy every second of it.

Jacki, it is so nice to see your posts. I have missed you. You certainly have had a challenging few months. I pray your Dad will get better. You had some serious issues with your Mom a few years ago. Your life has had many changes in the last year but I feel it will all be good. Just a few bumps in the road. I hope your new job is going well. You deserve all the best. I hope you have a fabulous vacation.
    Rest, relax and enjoy.

Thanks everyone! I really don't like being a downer. Likely another reason I've taken such a big step back from the forum. I miss you all!

My mom did have some very serious health concerns a few years ago and unfortunately has let herself go a bit again and is experiencing some consequences. Fluid in the lungs, unable to walk and breathe at the same time....she was already planning on staying at the pool and not even trying to make it to the beach this year. It's honestly best that she stay home too.

Just found/packed our owners cards and our casino cards. Completed the online ED cards and put our passports in the front pocket of my bag. I'm getting excited!!!
