we actually bought it at Monarch Jewelers near Fishes and more. We wandered in after dinner and found they had a wall of booze that they sell. I asked about Aruba made liquors and they had the vodka and a tequila. I bought 2 bottles of the vodka for $25 each and it included a matching shot glass! Other than a pain to get home (have to pack it in checked luggage) a pretty good deal. I bought 1 bottle of the tequila for $20.

Thanks for sharing your time with us.
I know it is an inconvenience to post especially when you are enjoying your family.
Alway add bubble wrap to your packing list.

Wed 7/21- half way thru our 9 days here and the time is flying, as usual. Got to the beach today early and actually read some of my book and listened to music! My daughter came down to the beach and she and my wife floated on our rafts in the ocean foe about an hour before I joined them. We now call this “lazy ocean” and we much prefer this to the crowded Lazy River at the Surf Club.
We spent several hours there until we went for lunch at Moomba. After lunch we went back to the pool and hung out with the rest of the family until I decided to go take a nap (Jays posts about afternoon napping inspired me).

So this is my story of the day….This morning, I got an email from a friend of mine from NY (former colleague at my company who retired 7 years ago) with the subject Aruba. It turns out that he and his wife arrived here last week and are staying thru September and he wanted to know some of my restaurant recommendations. He is a regular here in Aruba now based on me telling him about it years ago.
we hadn’t seen each other in almost 2 years and had limited communication during covid (just fell out of touch). I responded that we are here in Aruba now and let’s try to meet up. He was blown away by the shear luck of this timing. We then switched to text messages and soon arranged to meet for drinks after dinner tonight at the Marriott hotel as they were having dinner at Atardi there.
We met them within 30 seconds of arriving at the lobby bar as they were walking in from Atardi! We couldn’t have timed it better. We had a great reunion and sat talking and catching up for almost 2 hours. They gave us a ride back to the spyglass tower of the Surf Club. We couldn’t have arranged to get together this quickly in NY/NJ if we tried! We did take a picture before leaving them…

    Ann and I on the right…damn I can’t get these pictures rotated…sorry.

Dinner tonight was at Papiamento with 8 of us. My daughter, SIL and their son Dylan didn’t come as it’s not a great place with an antsy 2 1/2 year old. We really enjoyed dinner and my wife and I shared the surf and turf on the stone. Interestingly, we wanted to have dessert but they no longer serve the carrot cake and red velvet cakes we asked for that they had in the past and they were out of most other desserts. Coming to Aruba to have NY style cheesecake is not really our thing! So we skipped dessert.

Thursday 7/22- another fun beach day. We went tubing with 4 of us on the tube and 4 in the boat including my grandson Dylan who loved the boat ride. When we got back from the ride, Jay was there on the beach waiting for me. We had a great visit with him and Tracy and CJ and our whole family on the beach, playing some soccer and getting to know each other. At one point, Dylan ran away from the group down the beach. As his father started running down the beach to catch him, CJ ran after him like he was shot out of a cannon. Man, can that kid run! He easily caught up to Dylan until dad could get there to bring him back. Here are a few pictures from this morning including another great group photo of us that Tracy took. I will update the rest of our day later after Grandparents dinner night.

Great photos. We really enjoyed meeting you and the entire family earlier today. Enjoy the rest of the trip and see you on Sunday in the crying room at the airport.

Thursday 7/22 PM- We finally made it down to Eduardo's Beach Shack for lunch today. I got the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl which is by far one of the best items and $ deals for lunch in Aruba! Although it took awhile to get it because they were so busy, it was excellent. We sat under the Divi Tree by the shops in front of the Playa Linda and it was cool and comfortable. On the way back to the Surf Club, we walked past a small beach area between the Holiday Inn and Moomba Beach. This beach area is reserved for guests of the Radisson Blu hotel. Although it is a dedicated beach with nice chaise lounges and umbrellas it is VERY Small.

For dinner, we and the other grandparents went out alone to Aqua Grill. We have always liked this restaurant but hadn't been back there in a few years. It was very good and their Caribbean Fish Chowder which we had always loved was a big winner! Using our Marriott Owners card we got two free desserts which were Key Lime Pie and Apple Crisp with ice cream.

Friday 7/23- We all got our Covid tests by 8am this morning, at the clinic set up at the Surf Club. Very efficient systems and we were in and out of there quickly. The part that really bothered me was that my 2 1/2 year old grandson had to have a Covid test done as well. We all took the antigen tests (we've all been vaccinated) but we got the PCR test for him as that one was done with a swab in his throat vs. in his nose, which we thought he would freak out more. It still wasn't good in any case and we felt terrible that he had to be put through that. He got over it quickly, but I really don't understand why the US would still require a child that age (anyone over 2) to have a negative Covid test.
Fortunately, we all got our results by early afternoon and they were all Negative so we are "Fit 2 Fly" as the posters here say.

After the Covid tests, 9 of us went to Linda's Dutch Pancakes for breakfast (see picture attached). We got there just after they opened so no waiting. We all loved our pancakes and once again we used Bitcoin to pay our bill. Stephen came over and we chatted about things going on with Bitcoin and how it still isn't used frequently at his restaurant (we've done it twice now).

When we got back to the Surf Club, we did the Big Mable Tube ride again as the kids loved it the day before (not once but 2 consecutive rides). Not only was it great for those of us riding on the tube but they let 5 of our group ride along on the boat including Dylan my grandson. We all loved it.

I will finish my Friday update tomorrow.
