Safe travels home- we won't see you in the airport unless your flight is delayed 2 hours like ours is. More time to drink at lunch I guess, lol.
Trip 33 begins on July 15.

Thanks all. It was fun to share our trip with like minded Aruba lovers. We can all really share the experiences with each other since we are all so familiar with Aruba. Jay sorry to hear about the delay. Airport wasn’t terrible but still took 1.5 hours to get to the gate from entry to the airport. Waiting of tour flight to board and it should be close to on time.

Family returns for 10th Aruba trip- July 17-25th-576dc8b8-d2af-435f-8de7-ae911ccdc451-jpg Dylan navigating Aruba Airport

Sunday 7/25- Travel day home. Always a stressful day and even more so with the horror stories we're hearing and seeing about weekend departures from Aruba airport.

Our JetBlue flight was scheduled for departure at 2:14pm today. Our transportation pick up was scheduled for 10:30, which got my daughter Stacey, with her 2 1/2 year old son, Dylan freaking out. Its bad enough for adults to be patient and stressed waiting in long lines at terminal, Aruba Immigration/ Security, US Customs/ Security, but with a "terrible twos" kid it can be an absolute nightmare. She decided to go earlier, based on advice from our Taxi Driver Jonathan that its best to get to the airport before it gets busy. So they went separately and Jonathan picked them up at 9:30am in order to try to beat the crowds. It worked! They were from Curb to gate in 45 minutes. Granted, they had a LONG wait in the departure/ gate areas but its easier to chase him around in that area then in security/ immigration/ terminal check in.

Our van came a bit early and we were on our way by 10:20. We arrived at the terminal at 10:45 and the JetBlue check in/ bag drop line was already out the door. We probably could have used the self service kiosk and bag drop to save some time but we didn't. My wife and I both have Global Entry so we saved a lot of time at US Customs. The rest of our group who did not have Global Entry made it to the gate about 40 minutes after us. Our curb to gate time was 90 minutes.

Aruba airport, the airlines and US Customs have to do something about these ridiculous wait times and delays. The Airport 2030 project isn't coming soon enough to make a difference. As Aruba gets more and more popular and more and more hotels and resorts of being built it is just going to put more strain on this already outdated airport.

As much as we love Aruba, this hassle and stress of arrival and departure is making us rethink future trips here. I'm sorry to be a "Debbie downer" about our beloved Aruba, but it just might not be worth the stress/ hassle especially if traveling on weekends and with families.

Our flight left about 35 minutes late and we arrived back to Newark only about 15 minutes past the original scheduled time.
It was a great trip and I will post more of the posed beach pictures from the last night, when they are available.

Sounds like the airport has been nightmare for everyone lately. Sorry you had to deal with it.

It's akin to every call centre in the world: "We're experiencing longer than normal wait times." No you're not: you're experiencing understaffing.
