    Wednesday Day 3:

Our typical morning routine; breakfast in, gym and alight snack afterwards. Then it was on to new territory for us with the car purchase and putting the car legally on the road.

First stop was the tax office to register the car. You take a number and sit. Once your called you are directed to the appropriate window. Pretty simple. You fill out the registration form, which is in Dutch, pay the registration fee and receive a receipt and form for the insurance company. I must say that everyone was very helpful. The woman at the registration window translated the form for us, one item at a time and helped us fill in the information. Next it was on to the insurance company, that was close by. The company was recommended by the car dealer, so we simply used them. They had a welcome desk where you check in and describe what type of insurance your looking for and then take a seat. Once you are called you sit with a representative who creates the policy. Again, simple. We paid the policy for a year, received another proof form and then off to the office where you pick up your plates. You walk in and take a number and as soon as you’re called you present the registration and proof of insurance documents and they hand you your plates. The whole process was painless and everyone that took care of us was nice. It probably took us two hours to get everything accomplished, but we weren’t done yet. From there we headed to the vehicle inspection station. You make an appointment and then return on your date and time to get the car inspected. The first appointment they had available was November 5th, so we’ll return then to finish the process. Owning a car on the island is not that expensive compared to our home in the states. The insurance and registration fees were reasonable in comparison, maybe a little less.

We also stopped at an auto repair shop that was recommended by the selling car dealer, Master's Garage, to have the car serviced and checked over prior to the car inspection next week. They are in the same building as the car dealer, so it was very convenient.

After that we headed to the Beach Bar for happy hour. They were having live entertainment, so we gave it a try. It was just a “one-man musical band”, but he was very good.

From there we went to Super Foods to pickup a few things and dropped them off at the condo.

Tonight, was movie night at the mall. We went to see The Joker. The plot was a little depressing, but the acting was very good.

By the time the movie ended we were ready to call it a day. It was a busy one, but we got a lot accomplished. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any sun time, but tomorrow is another day.

Congrats on your new car, sounds pretty nice compared to dealing with the RMV here in the states (at least in Mass)....Is the new IMAX movie theater open is that where you went to see Joker? If so how is it and it it open during the daytime?

    Thank you...

The new IMAX is not even close to being open. Right now it is a steel shell and huge. I'll take a picture of it and add it to my Google Photos link when I get it started.

    Thursday Day 4:

Today was another day of taking care of items at the tax office. We had to investigate our property tax assessment change that was brought to our attention by our property management company. We got there right after their lunch break, which lasts for one hour and forty-five minutes…nice. We went to the automated check in service. It is convenient in the sense that you choose one of three languages, either Papiamento, Dutch or Holland, there is no selection for English and select what you’re there for and a ticket number pops out of the machine. We asked someone for assistance and one of the staff happily assisted. He said, they should add English and we agreed. So, we got a ticket and waited to be called. They have a menu board that populated the held tickets and directs you to one of three reception windows and from there you get redirected. A funny observation…at the bottom of the menu board there is a running ticker with the day’s international news highlights, which is all in English. I made a humorous comment to the person that called our ticket number, that the check in kiosk had no provision for English, yet the news ticker is all in English. She simply replied, I don’t know who sets these things up, with a smile. We were directed to another table, where we sat and waited for assistance. We were called in and presented all the documents that were required to plead our case. When it was all said and done it was agreed that a mistake was made and that we fortunate to catch the mistake, otherwise it would have just continued. They gave us an Objection Letter to fill out, which is all and Dutch, for submission. We made another appointment for the following morning to have the form reviewed for completeness and accuracy, which was our call not theirs, as we wanted to make sure it was done correctly. We were there for two and a half hours, but it was worth the effort, as we reconciled two tax years of overpayment and saved a lot of money doing so, as all future tax bills will also be correct.

From there we went back to the condo and sat poolside and enjoyed some adult beverages. We had planned on eating in tonight, as I had to do some work remotely, so as evening progressed we did as planned and just remained there the rest of the evening.

    Friday Day 5:

We had to alter our morning today, as we had an appointment at the tax office at 10:00AM, with a department Chief to finish up our property tax questions and submit our Objection Letter. We were called on schedule and waited in an office for the Chief to appear. He was in a meeting and couldn’t attend, but another very nice lady came in and took his place. She took her time reviewing our letter and made sure it was filled out correctly. Our one on one contact could not take the Objection Letter for submission. We had to get it officially stamped first and then submit at the same time at the front desk. So, we went back to the kiosk, took a number and waited to be called. Hey, it’s their system and who are we to question. We got it stamped and completed the submission, retaining a copy for ourselves. We were out of there in forty-five minutes and headed to the gym, feeling good about the time and effort it took to get the situation rectified.

Went back to the condo for a light lunch and a dip in the pool. After lunch we stopped a custom auto parts store, Jaced Enterprises, that was recommended to get a dash shade and cover for the car while it sits stored when we’re away. The staff there were great, and we left with everything we needed.

We also received an email confirmation from Master's Garage, that the car service was completed, so we stopped by to pay our bill. We were very impressed with the repair shop...courteous, professional and honest. They are also very reasonable and gave our car a very good rating, so we are even more pleased with the purchase.

From there we headed downtown for happy hour at Café Chaos. We parked behind Renaissance Mall and walked around a bit, looking at the changes taking place. We found the ne Amuse location, which is right up front next to Cuba’s Cookin. They were not open yet, but it appeared close to being ready. There is also a Margaritaville style, open air bar being constructed in the alley way between the two strip mall buildings. We crossed the street and headed to Café Chaos, where we had a few beverages and indulged in the snack plate that they put out. It was kind of quiet there tonight, as the UB40 concert was taking place and a lot of people were already headed in that direction.

There was a very large waterfront stage setup in the vicinity of the old shipping harbor, within a fenced in area for the concert that we had noticed being constructed earlier in the week. Further up the road there was a lot of bleachers being constructed for the upcoming beach volleyball tournament, where the old resort was. It was nice to see those areas being utilized for public events, as it takes quite a load off Eagle Beach.
We wanted something quick to eat for dinner, so we went to the Wei Tai Restaurant for dinner and then headed back to the condo and sat outside for awhile before calling it a night.

Sounds like you're getting things in order and will soon be up and have nothing to do. How wondereful. Your wait times don't seem too bad, it can take three hours to get waited on at our DMV office. What make/model of car did you buy?

    thanks for sharing.

although a bit time consuming, your tax office visit was not as painful as I had thought it would be.
here in flames, the visits to the tax collector are long and terribly frustrating.
    your photos are terrific!!

We purchased an imported used car from Japan from CARS4EVERYONE. We were told that the cars they get are basically used as commuters. The owners garage them and then drive them to a public transportation garage to go to work. They are in excellent condition and have low mileage. We purchased a 2009 Nissan March. It is in remarkable condition with 40,000 miles on it. They barely look driven and are sold cheaper than a comparable model home in the states.

Ah yes...nothing to do. It's getting closer!

Sounds like you are starting to get in vacation mode! I hadn’t heard of Cafe Chaos so that’s another spot to add to my research. I’m looking forward to checking out the Amuse BBQ as well. Wish I could extend our trip.
