It wouldn’t be the painting that is in the area in back of the cash register would it? It’s a painting of the lighthouse. I absolutely loved that one but getting it home would have been a challenge. I picked up one of the shadow box open door series when the artist was at the Manchebo. That shop has one if the best selections’

Rented a car for the first time (Suzuki sedan for 24 hours from Hertz at at Eagle Aruba.)
We tend to cut loose and day drink on vacation, so we have previously stuck with taxis and buses.
Trekked down to Baby Beach for swimming & snorkeling. We staked our claim to a little dappled shade under a tree. The water was surprisingly rough and the area where we encountered fish previously was roped off. There is a coral berm in the shallows that had a few fish and one of our group saw a small turtle. Pleasant enough way to spend a couple of hours.
Next stop lunch at Casabari Café. We all had paninis: 2 ham; 2 steak. They were remarkably flavorful, and we pretty much inhaled them. We clambered up the rock formation, not unlike children on a jungle gym (mind you, we are all in our fifties.) The wind was rather gusty up top, so we got a few photos and made our way down the stairs clutching the railing.
Keeping with the rock theme we stopped at Ayo next. Encountered a couple dozen goats on our walk through the paths and finally found the rock paintings. We headed toward Alto Vista Chapel, but mass was in session, so we continued down toward the shore to watch the waves crash for a bit.
Not wanting to drive in the dark, we headed back to La Cabana and got cleaned up for dinner at Bavaria.
Knowing there would be beer had by all, we took a taxi to Bavaria for another amazing meal. The beer menu is down from 6 pages to 1 this week, as their shipment from Germany is sitting in the port. We still managed to have some fabulous beer pairings with our meal. We split potato pancakes and pretzels. DH had the goulash special. I had the chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce. Our friends had the pork schnitzel with mushroom sauce and rinderroulade. Yum. Peter was ever the gracious host as he explained to us the secrets to making rinderroulade (most importantly finding a good butcher...)
We had delusions of heading back to the resort and playing cards, but we were too tired and full to do anything but head to bed.
Just another day in paradise, with nothing to complain about.

What a great day. Nice to hear you youngsters were able to climb the rocks at Casabari and enjoy the views.

    Wednesday 12/11
Had the rental car until 1145 today, so we got up early to watch the sunrise at the California Lighthouse. Only 2 other cars were there, so we got some good photos without people or tour buses in them.
Headed back to Alto Vista Chapel, there were a few cars, but only one other person. It was quite peaceful.
Got to Linda’s Pancakes just before they opened and had a delicious breakfast. While the menu here seems more exciting (boozey), I am not sure why, but I recall liking the Dutch Pancake House a little more.
We gassed up the car and made one last stop at Super Food. Loaded up on more seltzer to go with our rum, plus veggies and steaks for the grill tonight.
Driving ended up being less intimidating than we had anticipated. And not walking to and from Super Food was most certainly an upgrade.
We ladies left the men holding down the table at the pool, while we went for a swim in the ocean and a walk along the exposed coral. The waves were calm today, which made for a great swim, but minimal blow holes in the exposed coral. Got back just in time to get cleaned up for the wine tasting. Eleven of us shared 4 bottles and a lot of laughs. Cathy does a great job coordinating it all :0)
The men took the steaks down to the grill, while I sautéed onions, mushrooms, and asparagus on the stove. We enjoyed dinner in the room with one more bottle of wine. A nap before dessert, then over to Mangoes only to learn the chef that was going to make our deep-fried cheesecake was on his day off today ☹ We were promised for sure they will have it for us tomorrow. Oh well, if tomorrow doesn’t pan out, we can always get it at El Gaucho on Saturday :0) We pretty much had dessert for breakfast today anyway.
Browsed the vendor tables at La Cabana and bought a small porcelain dish with sand and shells glued to it for putting my watch and rings in when doing dishes. Walked over Terazza to make reservations for dinner tomorrow and headed off to bed. We will be up early tomorrow for Aruba Bob Snorkeling!
