Thanks so much for taking us along. It's always fun to see the island through the eyes of a first timer.
You certainly packed a lot in for your first visit, and now you understand how addictive Aruba can be. I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed with Chalet Suisse. I always try to prepare people for the old school decor and the noise level. I have trouble with the noise, but we love it so much that we go back time after time. We've been there at least a dozen times and have always had outstanding service. Since you didn't have a reservation, I wonder if they worked you in, and if the servers in that area were overworked. Sometmes, we've felt that the service has been too efficient. Once, for amusement, my husband decided to see just how far he could empty his water glass, before it was refilled.I don't think that he ever took more than 3 sips before the water server was filling it back up. The guy ended up standing discreetly close to us so that he could make sure that his water glass never got low. It was like his job depended on keeping my husband happy. We didn't keep count this time, and we weren't drinking excessive amounts, but we figured that the water guy probably topped off our water glasses about 10 times this week. All of our other servers were just as attentive. I'm glad that you enjoyed the grouper, but I understand your disappointment.

I hope that you have good flights home. You'll have wonderful memories to get you through the remainder of winter. Now that you've experienced the smell by Amsterdam Manor, would you stay there again? It's such a lovely resort, but I've hesitated to recommend it to people because of the smell.

LOL! "Deflation process". I love that!! And you're a kitty lover! I knew I liked you! I think you need to go to Aruba again in early September so we can get together for cocktails and dinner! Safe trip back to the frozen Midwest. Just close your eyes and think tradewinds...tropical cocktail...crystal blue warm water...tropical cocktail...baby-soft sand...you can guess the next one. Loved your trip reports!

Lisa - I am so glad you enjoyed my trip reports - I appreciate your kind words and encouragement! And, I would love to travel to Aruba in the off season for better rates and fewer crowds. If I do, I will definitely give you the heads up! Thanks again!

    Hello Hatteras!

I am glad you had good experiences at Chalet Suisse - I betcha they tried to work me in, like you said!

Thank you for your good wishes for a safe trip - I did make it home just fine. Just a crazy-long travel day. I will write more about that in my final trip report for this thread

I do plan on going back to Amsterdam Manor - in the off season. I think the stench gets bad because the sewage plant can't handle the high season. Fortunately, it was only bad my first evening there. The rest of the time there might be a slight whiff of unpleasantness but that's it.

Thank you again for your kind and encouraging words!
