December 1
Really the 1st was the 1st day of travel as we had to drive to Ft Lauderdale for our JB flight. Usually we fly to FLL or MIA from Orlando and connect onto SWA or to AA, but the price tag on AA was ridiculous and SWA has not yet resumed their FLL to AUA flights.
So, JB won our business again.
Paul and I are close friends with an elderly gentleman whom we help quite a bit with shoping and banking stuff. He lives about 50 miles from us and we could not reach him for the last couple of days so we were worried. Last time it happened, I called his neighbor to do a wellness check and our friend was furious that we did that. We for all intents and purposes are really his family and most of his friends are now gone. So we were sweating it out. He finally called us on Wednesday morning to check and and that helped us breathe a sigh of relief.
We drove the 200 miles to Dania Beach area outside of FLL and stayed at a Marriott and kept the car in their lot for the 2 weeks. $180 for us to sleep over and that included parking for 15 nights.
December 2
Took the shuttle from Marriott to the FLL/Hollywood airport. Check in and security checks were a breeze.
The flight was about ¾ full and Paul and I had aisle seats with no one in the middle!
We took off on time and landed a couple of minutes early.
The airport was busy but we went right thru immigration and got our bags and then waved on thru AUA customs and into the shuttle to Tropic office to get our vehicle. A 2020 Hyundai Accent. Car in good shape and frigid air conditioning.
We checked into the LaCabana and are in our unit and it has recently been refurbished with new paint, drapes, bedding and furniture. It is nice.
We ran over to the Pata Pata to have a drink and the place was hopping!
One would never know that there is a pandemic by the non social distancing at the bar and bar area…………..but it is outside and I got a few hugs (uggg cooties) but everyone indoors is masked and all staff of lacabana indoor and out are masked.
Off to Super Food for a few necessities, milk, beer, coke zero and coffee creamer.
We grabbed a quick take out of chicken and rice and salad from Jacks @ SuperFoods and headed back to LaCabana.
Paul loved his dinner. I was unimpressed with the chicken but the rice and salad was good.
His “nibs” is at the casino here. He got there at 8 and it is now 9:15 so I am guessing that he is at least even.
Calling it a night. I am beat. This fat old lady cannot burn the candle at both ends, and a good night sleep is what I need. It has been a tough week………..our kitty dying, Tracey’s Dad dying, a good friend very ill and having to make some very difficult decisions and the worry of our elderly dear friend. Paul and I both needed this break.
Tomorrow’s plan includes endless time in the pool AND sitting under the umbrella crocheting.
Saturday will be Reflexions beach for the day.
Looking forward to seeing Bri , Bully, Amy S and a few others.
Missing Peggy/Tom, Walt/Pam, Tracey/Jon.![]()
