It's definitely different. Lol. There is a sign that reads "Our island does not have sewage system, so please do not throw paper in the toilet. Use the sanitary container." Today, we are heading to Salt & Pepper for breakfast, then hit up Bugaloe, Eduardo's, my husband will get Scott's Brats and we will generally wander along the resort area. May try to get to the Butterfly Farm again too. That was super cool last time!!

There is a sewage treatment plant on the island, however; they may not be connected to it. It also may be that their pipes can't handle it or they are worried about clogged toilets. It is common in a lot of places in the world not to flush the paper. When I was a kid on a poultry farm, we had septic and paper went into the trash can, however; the newer septic systems in the states can handle paper.
I believe that all properties have septic systems.
I am not sure, but I really doubt that any homes are connected to a sewer system, only septic.
The "no anything from the outside" into the toilet is their way of keeping their septic working well.
When we stayed at the Caribbean Palm Village, there were roosters in the neighborhood beside the resort.
At 3 am daily the roosters would start their cock a doodle doos....Paul and I would roll over in bed and mutter obscenities and different renditions of how if the opportunity presented it self on how we would kill the bird. After a few days, we became used to it.

Glad you guys are having fun. We like Cafe 080 and Local Store a lot, glad to hear they are open. I really like the breakfast at Salt and Pepper. If you want a big breakfast try Chicken and Lobster at Playa Linda.

We are at Bugaloe right now and it is us and one other party here. The palapas on the beach are all but empty. It's definitely a way different trip than last time!! Also, yes, I'm drinking because it's Monday morning and I'm not at work. Woot!!

Back to the toilet issue...lol The sewage treatment plant is where septic trucks empty their 'haul'. To the best of my knowledge no one is connected to a sewer system, we all have septic systems. Septic here is cement tanks in the ground (no leach fields as in the USA). When the tanks are getting full you notify your septic company (we use Ecotech but there are also many small firms that offer septic pumping) and they come with a big truck and pump out your tanks. We put paper in the toilet....my guess is the owner asks you to not put paper in toilet so he/she does not have to have the tank pumped as often. I have always lived where there is a public sewer system so monitoring the tanks is new to me....I was really whacko when we first had the house....I have adjusted. lol
I understand the situation of toilet paper in the waste basket. Done that, been there. I used to travel to Puerto Rico for Thanks Giving every year and would stay at an Aunts house. No paper was allowed in the toilet on account that their piping could not handle it and it would clog up pretty quick. My brother who has a house in upstate NY has the same issue but expanded the septic tank.
Back to more happier thoughts, I'm really loving your trip report and hearing about baby beach, 080 cafe, Bugalu, Linda's, bucket of beers, empty palapa's with no palapa hoggers in site. I love it!!! I wish I was there now but for will live it up thru you. Thx for sharing. Keep it coming!
