    Post Covid Trip 9/4 - 9/13

    Finally… we’re back!

Our first Aruba trip since May 2019, after canceling twice in 2020 and skipping our May trip earlier this year.

We scheduled this trip in July, when things were looking up. We were both fully vax’d since March, cases were going down and travel seemed mostly safe. When cases started going back up, I had full intentions to cancel. Covid has been making me crazy and hubs and I have been very cautious with everything. Despite that, I caught the delta variant 3 weeks ago. I was symptomatic, hubs fortunately did not get it. After all that stress, we decided to keep the trip since we now needed more than ever. The pre-trip testing was stressful for sure, moreso because of my very recent recovery. I just needed my proof of positive result along with letter from my dr clearing me for travel. Hubs did the Walgreens IDNow Test plus another one at WellNow. He tested Wednesday afternoon and had both negative results back by Thursday am. I uploaded his Walgreens test and my proof of recovery to the ED cards on Thursday and received our green check marks. Printed everything out just in case. Glad I did, as it seemed more efficient to show everything on paper.

Flew 1st class Delta from Syracuse- JFK-AUA. Flights were smooth and early. Both flights were full. Annoying woman in front of us was not wearing her mask most of the way. Flight attendant asked her a couple times to pull it up and then kind of gave up. We were the only plane in and moved extremely quickly through all the steps, asked to show our health documents 3 times. They were scanning luggage on way out and that was the longest hold up.

Car rental from Tropic, efficient as usual. We are staying at Amsterdam Manor for 2 nights before moving to Ocean Club for a week on Monday. Upon arrival we were assigned a Superior Studio room right next the resorts construction zone. I’m usually not choosy about room selection but we both found this disappointing so I went back to reception and asked if we could move, even downgrade. They came through with an upgrade to 1 br suite located very near reception area. We are very pleased with them for being so accommodating. It makes it difficult to be critical of this resort but I have to be honest for others who are considering a stay here. The sewage smell is apparent, moreso to hubs than me, as my smell is still affected by Covid. I am however, very bothered by the flies. They are everywhere here. Some people may not be bothered by them but I’m finding myself constantly swatting at them, especially during lunch at Passions Beach Bar yesterday. I’m sure this is all related to the sewage treatment plant. And the Aruba Govt needs to do something about it. This is such an amazing resort in all other regards.

After settling our new room we decided to pack some Brights and head to the beach for a while. Just in time for the rain :-(. We stayed out for a bit took a dip in the sea, light rain continued on and off. Dinner was at Passions and fortunately the rain had stopped shortly before our reservation. We had a nice dinner and a mediocre sunset. Called it an early evening since we were beat from leaving our house at 3 am.

We setup early on the beach (no need to do so as it’s empty here, it’s just what we do) and then headed down to Alhambra Market to grab some fresh pastechi and coffee. Returned to more rain and enjoyed our breakfast on our ground floor patio (well, except for the flies grrrr).
We are literally the only ones on the beach now, except for a group of locals on one end, and it’s gray and rainy on and off. We are going to stick it out and hope to be rewarded with sun and blue skies soon. Regardless of the pre-travel stress and current gloomy weather, we are so thankful to be back and looking forward to a fun and restful 8 days. I will update during the week.

Nice to hear you are back in Aruba! Sorry to hear you were positive for COVID!! Amsterdam Manor is really in a tough spot with the ongoing sewer smell. Hope it subsides so you can enjoy.

    Now, enjoy the beach!!

thank you for sharing the beginning part of your stay !

wow, that stinks that you caught the Delta Variant, but glad to hear you are now well. Thank God.

here's hoping for weather improvement, fly disappearance and the smell of the ocean and flowers to return.

thanks...very happy that you 2 are back!

Have a wonderful vacation. Wishing you sunny skies very soon! It’s unusual for it to rain in Aruba for a period of time but it seems like the weather is changing everywhere. I will be arriving at the Marriott this weekend. Maybe I will see you at the Ocean Club!

Too bad for that sewer probably but at least you are only staying 2 nights. I read a recent review about Aruba Phoenix. Someone had a room with a bathroom and mentioned the smell was so unbearable he had to use public bathroom. I wonder if it had anything to do with the sewer problem.

Enjoy your stay and hoping you fare better at Ocean Club.
