Out of season for MY umpiring, although baseball is still being played here (under a different organization).

My flights to Aruba were fine -- uneventful and on-time. The airport upon arrival here, on the other hand, was a zoo. I was in seat 1B on my flight and the first off the plane. Visions of flying through the airport arrival process were soon shattered. Apparently ours was the sixth of seven flights to arrive in about a half-hour period.

All-in-all, I suppose it could have been worse. I didn't note the actual times, but even though lines were long and the whole area was swamped with people, it moved along as reasonably well as could be expected. I expected all of the subsequent lines (car rental, resort check-in) to be madhouses as well, but they were not.

After getting settled into my room, getting beach towels, provisions from the mini-market, etc., I stopped for refreshments and visits with the crew at The Beach Bar. Dinner was at Smokey Joe's, where I am like family. I think they saw me coming while I was still under Playa Linda's port cochere.

I paid a visit to the new Xanadu Casino at the Holiday Inn, and I am sorry to report that I found them to be "not ready for primetime." It was clean, shiny and pretty, but right off the bat I had to visit the Player's Club desk three times just to get a card that would be accepted in the machines, which are brand new!

In addition to just the three table games, which has been reported here (two blackjack and one roulette), there is exactly one video poker machine. Actually, not even one! It is a multi-game machine at the penny level (max bet $2). And it all my gambling years in many locations, I have never seen a jacks-or-better machine that doesn't pay 3-to-1 for three-of-a-kind until now. It pays 2-to-1 for both two pairs and three of a kind. That is beyond pathetic!

I made my way down to the Hyatt Casino to renew acquaintances there, but didn't stay long. I decided to make by way back to Playa Linda and spend some time in the hot tub to unwind from the long travel day. I will be calling it a night shortly after hitting "post" on this report.

    More tomorrow .....

It’s too bad about Xanadu. They obviously didn’t do their research. One video poker machine is crazy.

I'm sure they did their research..... If a regular reel type machine generates more income than video poker that's what they chose for the floor space. I play video poker because I can generally do better with it.....

Good point! My thought was if the casino doesn’t have a variety of machines, people will not go there to play. Just 3 tables of table games isn’t much of a draw when you can go to other casinos with better offerings.

You are so right its scary! They went from a casino with tons of tables and machines to something that sounds like a home casino....won't even stop and see it. They use to have a HUGE poker business going that made the casino thousands daily....no idea why they did not bring it back.

Just take the space the poker room used and load it with reel type machines and a bunch 'o folks cramming money into them and I'd betcha it's generating a bunch more revenue with less staff!

sure...they sound like they got rid over almost everything though No poker wins for you at the HI it sounds like. You seem to do well at the Hyatt though.
