We had scheduled an UBER pick up for Tuesday morning at 3:50 AM, which reliability can always be a question mark at that time. The alarm went off at 2:30, and I saw that we had received notification that our flight was delayed an hour. It would have been nice to get an extra hour of sleep, but too late to adjust now.

Our driver showed up as scheduled, so off to the airport. Security lines were nonexistent, and we breezed right through. With the flight delay, we had plenty of spare time and we find that as we get on in years, a more leisurely pace isn’t so bad. We flew JetBlue through JFK, which was still showing remnants of the snowstorm that blanketed them a couple days prior. Our flights were smooth and on time and we watched a couple of inflight movies, so the time passed by quickly...all good.

We stopped at Duty Free and picked up a couple bottles of Vodka. It’s the best pricing we have seen so far and still a bargain, even if you must pay any duty fees, which we did not.

Robin was waiting for us at the exit hall. It was so nice to see her. It will be nice to catch up with her and Stu during our trip.
She dropped us off at the condo and we proceeded to unpack the condo and car. The wife worked on the condo and I the car. I knew the battery was going to be an issue, so I put it on the car charger for a while and then helped inside. We have three locking cabinet doors in the kitchen island to store our personal items and we found one of the doors damaged. It appears that a guest had pulled against the door with enough force to break the cabinet frame. We’ll have to investigate getting that repaired.

On a positive note...when we entered the condo, we found a welcoming card, a bottle of wine, with wine glasses, that were left my our management company. So thoughtful.

Once we get unpacked, we use our own lined and toiletries, but the management was nice enough to outfit our room with everything for our first nights stay. The bed was made and pillows fluffed, and the room freshly cleaned. They also turn on the A/C units and chill the refrigerator, placing a cold pitcher of water inside. This service is not part of our contract with them, but is a much welcomed courtesy. They really do a great job.

The battery wouldn’t accept a charge, so I called Robin and she took us to Price Smart to look for a battery and grab a few essentials. I picked out a battery and we went back to the condo. Unfortunately, the battery wouldn’t fit, so we were still stranded for the night. We were really tired anyway, so we had a couple of snacks and called it a night.

I’ll setup a Google link for photos when I get a chance. Who doesn’t love Aruba photos!

The battery saga continues…I contacted the garage where we have our car serviced, to see if the had a battery in stock that would fit our car. If they did, I was going to walk over and pick it up, as we hated to bother Robin again. Well, they did not, so gave Robin a call and she came over and picked us up. Went to the NAPA store and struck out there too. They suggested a store next door and voila, they had six of them on the shelf.

Robin dropped us back at the condo, she has been so helpful, and installed the battery and aired up the tires. We were now free to roam, so off to do some grocery shopping.

Went to Price Smart first, as we had to return last night’s battery purchase anyway and grabbed some bulk items. From there we went to Super Foods and did the bulk of our shopping.

We returned to the condo, unloaded, and made a salad for lunch. We laid by the pool for a little while, not to long, as we look like a couple of tourists that just saw sun for the first time in six months, which is not far from the truth. Went back inside and found water pooling from the refrigerator, so we contacted our management company, and they called the “refrigerator” guy. We did a little more tidying up in the condo and then headed to Mathews for happy hour and dinner seaside.

Mathews has completely remodeled the bar area, much larger now and more functional for the staff. They've also made a few changes to the dining area. We had a light dinner, but it was nice to eat something besides nuts and cheese, which I think we have been living on for the past two days, well and enjoyed the view.

We were still not completely recovered from travel day, so went back to the condo. The refrigerator guy had already stopped by and made a repair, so we’ll see how that works out. We relaxed and watched a little TV before calling it a night.

ugh the joys of home ownership

speaking of batteries. we needed 6 for our golf cart.
we went to hell and back and finally were able to get them.
apparently batteries for vehicles are items that are hard to get.
    blame it on covid

get some sun so that you do not look touristy.
you are not wearing black tube sox and sandals are you?

    February 3rd:

Starting to get back to our normal morning routine while here on the island…it’s so nice to have to look at my watch, to see what the day and date is.

I’m usually up by 5:30 at home. While we’re here I try to sleep an hour later. I usually remote into the office and do some administrative housekeeping for an hour or so, catch up on the news in the states and here in Aruba and then off to the gym.

So off I went to Body Zone Fitness Center to renew my membership. Jason, the owner walked right up and welcomed me back. He said, it’s been two years, so glad you’ve returned. Chatted with him for a few minutes. He said that at one time during the pandemic, he thought they would have to close, but membership has now picked up again and they are recovering. He’s fortunate, as many businesses can’t say the same thing.

Back to the condo for breakfast. The bride loves to cook, so I let her enjoy herselfthis is our everyday morning routine, so I won’t include it in the daily going forward.

We went to the Do It Center, the wife also likes to shop…☹ She walked up and down every isle in the grocery section and I went to get a couple of tension shower bars, to hang our towels and other things. We had a couple before, but they went missing since we were last here. We’ll store them elsewhere next time.

Got a little sun poolside and then ventured off.

The wife also loves the casinos…☹ so we went to The Glitz for a short stint. All the table games have been replaced with slot machines. Must be they weren’t making enough from the tables. On a positive note, it was so nice to be in a smoke free environment. I wandered around a bit and found her up a few $$$, so I grabbed her and before she gave it all back and left.

We stopped at Peta Peta for happy hour. We stayed for a music set and then decided it was time to get something to eat.

We decided on Pizza, so that meant a trip to the Urataka Center. We ordered a large pie and a couple of beverages. It was delicious, as usual. It was starting to get dark, and they were getting busy, so we headed back to the condo.

We watched a little TV and then called it a day.

I hope the casinos continue to be smoke free! Not too surprised to see that tables are being replaced with slot machines as the slots are more profitable. We noticed on our Vegas trip the casinos were removing some of their tables in favor of the machines.

‘Also, good to hear that the gym is recovering their business!!

Just another good day.... and thank you for posting. I'm done with the Glitz after my last trip finding only 2-3 table games in the 'pit' where the bar used to be.
