    Trip Jan-March 2018

I am sitting in a hotel near the PHL airport. Our flight is at 8:20 am and we decided to get to the hotel before dinner rather than after to allow our son to get home before dark as the roads in our city are not the greatest right now. We have 4 large suitcases/duffle bags and two carry-ons each and we hope to gate check. Almost 3 full months is a long time to be away from home and I am getting a little anxious now since the most we've ever been away at a time is under 3 weeks. We're leaving our 25 year old home alone, and while he is a good kid-he isn't the type to have parties, he is a slob, and I'm being nice. I am glad our cleaning people will be in once a week to make sure it's not a pigsty when we return. I also worry about him in case he gets sick, driving in bad weather, not eating right or enough, etc.

It is bitter cold right now at 15F and windy. When we board the shuttle to the airport at 530 am it is forecasted to be 1F with a wind chill of -11F. We both decided to layer up and take lighter coats so we don't have to deal with the heavy ones on the plane and besides, by the time we return March 22, we should be fine. But it will be very cold when we walk across the parking lot to dinner tonight and really bad in the am.

my son was your son (once upon a time) but his slobbiness has come a long way.
your son will do fine, will not starve and not burn down the house.
my kid, now almost 32 surprises me every moment of every day.

3 months in aruba, that sounds absolutely glorious!
enjoy every moment and try not to worry.
stay warm and safe travels tomorrow.

Three months on Aruba???? NICE!!!! My mother and step-father left me alone at home for up to three weeks when I was seventeen, and the house was just as they left it when they returned. Granted i had exams at the time, but even if I did not, I kn ow better than to disrespect their house. I'm sure your son will take good care of your home while you're gone. And with today's modern tech it's going to be easy to keep in contact and keep tabs on things. Enjoy yourselves, make the most of it!! Have a safe and relaxing trip!!!
