    Day 4
last evening’s champagne and sunset event on the Ocean Club beach had little in the way of sunset (too cloudy) but more than made up for it in champagne. It was a good time; we enjoyed hanging out on the beach before heading to Oak for dinner. Oak is okay. I had the coconut shrimp in a rum sauce; very tasty. Mike had the steak in wine sauce; also pretty good. Appetizers were a shrimp and clams dish in a spicy sauce and a mushroom dish. Dessert was coconut flan. All very tasty. Our issue was with the incredibly slow service. It took 3.5 hours to get through the meal! Way too long! They did have 3 large groups but this was crazy! Honestly a wedding celebration isn’t much longer. I’m guessing the other large parties was the problem. I would give it another try because the food was good.
after dinner we made our deposit to the slots at the Stellaris casino. Our win/loss statement as of last night is minus $8. Not bad a price for 3 nights of entertainment.
‘This morning I cooked breakfast then we moseyed around doing a lot of nothing. Finally headed to the beach in the early afternoon. Met a couple who live in a town near us and later caught up with a few friends we’ve made over the years. Stayed late at the beach to try and catch the elusive sunset but again too cloudy along the horizon. Oh well, we still have another week to see it.
On Monday at Lings I had scored a can of Cento brand imported Italian tomatoes and a box of DeCecco linguini both of which we use at home. Picked up olive oil, balsamic vinegar, lettuce and some Parmesan cheese and viola- we had dinner! I made the marinara sauce and washed the lettuce this morning so everything was ready when we got back from the beach. Put on a pot of water to boil for the pasta, opened up a bottle of wine and set up the table on the terrace. It was pretty nice. Now we’re kind of relaxing and decided to stay in.

    Thanks for sharing!

Exactly what we thought about Oak. It was ok….not stupendous the night we went and we sat outside with no lighting. We could not see our food. Lol. Sounds like they have a major service issue. With all the wonderful dining options in Aruba, Oak is off our list for next year.

    Keep enjoying!

    Day 5
Another perfect day in paradise! We got to the beach at noon and had already reserved a front row hut. It was nice to have but be warned— there’s virtually no shade around you. Despite 50 sunscreen, I did get a lot of color today. My dermatologist is not going to be happy when he sees me when I get back.
As I write this I’m watching the sunset from my balcony. Finally!! It is beautiful.
We caught up with the couple we met yesterday who lived a few towns away. We knew a good many of the same people. Like they say…it’s a small world.
‘Aruba in October is really peaceful. I’m not sure if people are still not traveling due to Covid restrictions but it is nice without the July crowds we are used to when we come with the family.
Tonight we are walking over the Chicken and Lobster for dinner. This summer I had the lobster and it was delicious. Hoping it’s just as tasty tonight. Going to try our luck at the Hyatt afterwards.
The weather has been perfect. Beautiful sun and breezes every day.

    Days 6 and 7
Yesterday was moving day as we were relocated to another room. I started to post but ran out of steam… So here’s 2 days into one.
First the food: The other night we ate at Chicken and Lobster. I know it’s not a so to speak hot spot but I have to say they served the best grouper! I asked them to leave off the almonds and the fish came out perfectly cooked, moist and delicious! I highly recommend it! I got the add on lobster tail option. Again, excellent. It’s a great setting along the main strip to sit and people watch too. Gambled that evening at the Hyatt and came out ahead about $300.
Last night we ate at Atari. I ordered both the shrimp appetizer and the scallop appetizer as my dinner. Excellent. Mike can’t get enough lobster so he ordered it there. The fennel broth was amazing. There was a lightening storm far away on the horizon. It was a great light show! Gambled last evening at the Ritz. Lost. We’re now about negative $150 for the trip so far. Tonight back to the Hyatt where the slots are looser.
Tonight we will dine at Casa Nonna. We really enjoyed it over the summer and are looking forward to going back. It’s too bad the Ritz slots are so tight. It would have made it easy for after dinner entertainment.
The weather has been wonderful. Sunny days, breezes, perfect.
This morning I received a text message from a cousin I haven’t seen in years. She saw me walking through the lobby as she was checking in the day before and was checking to see it it really was me. Needless to say we spent the entire day in the water exchanging news about our siblings (we’re both one of 6) and our children. We’re not even close to catching up and will continue the conversation tomorrow.

Small world. Similar experience for me in July..... I ran into my niece in July right outside our lobby..... just plain outta the blue and totally unexpected.
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the best of men!
