travel is stressful, no matter where.
add to the testing and the ed card thing and the insurance and the green check.........it is more than enough to discourage travelers.
some of us deal with stress better than others.
i am one that stresses out and obsesses until well after my feet are in the sand and a drink in the hand.

i cannot wait for the covid stuff to end.

aruba really appreciates all of the travelers that are jumping thru the appropriate hoops in order to visit.

and we wait for the entry and exit protocols to lessen!

I have to say I was in panic mode with all the requirements before arriving on the island but as everyone has said, once you get into doing the ED card, testing, insurance, etc. it was pretty easy. Flight down on Jet Blue from Boston was a full plane. Flight went well and arrived early. We got to customs and it was about 1/2 full. Just as we got to the line, they opened a new window so we were through customs and in the luggage area in no time. It was about 30 minutes from landing until we were in the cab. It was so strange to see all the empty cruise ships in port. Our cab driver told us they go out once in awhile to keep things running and we did see one go out and come back. Arrived at the Divi and our room was ready at 12:15 pm!! Great room right on the edge of the beach - ten steps from our door to the beach. We changed into our bathing suits and were on the beach in no time. Our days were basically the same - breakfast, beach, lunch, cocktails, beach, sunset, dinner, more cocktails, bed. We did go over to the casino a few times. I'm not a big gambler so I lose $20 and want to leave! I did break even this year on my two times betting! The Divi had nightly entertainment which consisted of someone playing the guitar and singing. That was fine by me as this was our 9th trip so we've seen most of the shows before. Covid protocols were being followed. All the staff were masked up and guests were about 1/2 and 1/2. They did require masks to go to the dining rooms until your food came. They were also doing contact tracing. Temperatures were taken everytime you entered the Divi lobby. The bar had a sign up that masks must be worn but not many people followed that rule except for the bartenders. The employees were thrilled to see all the guests. They thanked us over and over for coming. I would say it was about 80% capacity while we were there. A tram driver told us that they were booked 100% for the second week in June. We went to the hospital to get our covid test to come back to the USA. We were going to walk over as it is right across the street, but it was mid-afternoon and hot so we decided to take a cab. There wasn't one available at the Divi so a tram driver told us to hop in and he'd take us over to the casino to get one. Yet again, no cab. He ended up taking us to the Costa Linda where we finally found a cab. Over and above in my opinion! The cab driver was just as nice and had taken many people over to the hospital so he knew the drill. Easy peasy! We drove up, they checked our Aruba Health App to make sure it was working and had the info we needed. They did the test - long q-tip - but it didn't hurt. We were done in about 5 minutes and the nice cab driver took us back to the Divi. The nurse told us it would be 20-24 hours for results. My boyfriend was kind of freaking about this as he was sure he was going to test positive as he had to be back at work. There was NO reason to feel that way as we hadn't left the resort the whole time except a quick couple of trips to the casino where we had our temp taken and everyone was masked up. I wiped the machines down before we used them. He's retiring June 11th and had lots to do before that date. I woke up during the night and checked my phone and the results were there - 9 hours later. We were both negative and I printed out the results. Leaving day arrived too soon. We left the Divi 3 hours before our flights. Jet Blue was crowded as there was a plane to NY leaving about 30 minutes before ours. Once we left check-in and went through the two customs areas, we were at our gate in no time. We had to wait about two hours for our flight but I'd rather do that than be running! Flight to Boston was full also. We were flying the night of the blood full moon so the pilot pointed it out to us just before we got to Boston. He also warned us of a bumping landing as a thunderstorm had just arrived in Boston. He wasn't wrong! We did arrive about 20 minutes early in Boston but had to wait awhile for our luggage. Also, warning to people going to Boston. Uber and Lyft do not have enough people driving for them just yet. We called for an Uber just as our luggage arrived and it came back no small or mid-size cars available - what??? We ended up with a SUV that looked like the FBI had just arrived. Very fancy and twice as much as our ride in. We were home in no time though.

A couple of points - if you are on the fence about going to Aruba because of all the testing, insurance, etc - don't be. As I said I was nervous about the whole thing and did mess up one on part of it, but Aruba support was very helpful and fixed my error in no time and my green check marks came through. Testing to come home was super easy. We felt very safe while we were on the island. We missed sitting around the bar at night as we've met so many nice people doing that in past years, but we were still able to met a few people. One actually lives about a mile from us and another the next town over. I wouldn't hesitate to go again right now if I could!

Any questions - let me know!

Andrea - sorry we were unable to meet you guys at Moomba. We were at Logan at 4:00 am for our flight and faded early the first night. I didn't have my password to the forum with me to send you a message and hopefully meet up before you left! Looked for you at the casino! Maybe next time??

We'll be at Tamarijn next month and that sounds about like our daily plans. A couple of questions -

    - What's the beach looking like over there these days (Divi or Tam side)? I've read of some erosion.
    - How easy was it to get dinner reservations? Any thoughts on the a la cartes if you ate at any of them?
    - Any issues getting palapas?

As to capacity, Tamarijn has no availability per their website from June 14 through July 3 (other than 1 day). So definitely filling up.

We didn't spend much time at the Tam during the day so I can't really comment on the beach. We did walk along the beach from the Divi side to the restaurant area at the Tam and there wasn't much beach there. The end towards the Bunker Bar is usually better. The Divi beach leading to the Tam was great. Lots of room including the big section between the Divi and Tam. Dinner was pretty easy. We like 7:30 pm or after so we can watch the sunset before we go to dinner. I love all the restaurants but I am also of the opinion that if I don't have to cook it and clean up after it I'm a happy girl. We did have some great meals at all of the restaurants. I had a great steak at Red Parrot, a delicious salmon meal at Ginger and Seafood Risotto at the Italian restaurant. The last time we went the Mexican restaurant had just opened and I was not impressed. Totally different this time. Everything we had was great there. We did not have an issues getting palapas but we are up and out early. I would say be 10am or so most of the prime locations were taken. We are one of those people that go out and save one early in the morning, but that being said we are in those chairs all day. I hate when people save them and then don't show up until noon or not at all. As I stated earlier, we literally were in our chairs all day, every day we were there.

Enjoy your trip! I hope some of the restrictions are lifted by then but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Great trip report, hockeymom. I really enjoyed reading it. Your days sounded a lot like ours.

On another note, Andrea, I'm a lot like you. I stress over everything. Getting ready for the trip, I am stresses until we get to the gate. I don't know how my husband puts up with me.

Hi Hockeymom! So happy you were able to return to Divi, if I recall it has been a while. Just wondering if you noticed most of the same staff? I hope they are all still employed and healthy.

Sounds like a wonderful, relaxing vacation. Happy retirement wishes for your honey

Last time we went was April of 2019. We were booked to go in April of 2020 but, of course, had to postpone that. I moved it to November thinking this thing would be over by then - nope. Moved it to April 2021 and was a bit concerned with the rising numbers in Aruba in March so moved it out to May 16th. So happy we finally made it and can't wait to go again! Yes, I saw A LOT of the staff members from prior years. It was so nice to see them and they were thrilled to see us. They didn't actually recognize us as we keep a low profile down there but in conversation found out this was our 9th trip and thanked us over and over for coming. They were all smiling and so happy to see everybody. David the singing waiter was doing just that - singing all the time!

Thank you for the retirement wishes for my honey (Rob). I'm going to have a hard time heading off to work next week when he's home but my plan is to retire myself in December....hmmm, maybe a nice reason for a Divi trip. Hope you are doing well and will be able to go back to the Divi soon.

Hang in there, December will be here before you know it, hopefully your retirement as well and a return trip to celebrate.

Thanks for the update, glad to hear lots of the staff still well and employed. David is the best, always so happy and singing. David is quite the artist as well he showed us one of his drawings of the Divi many years ago when he first started and explained every detail to us, it was pretty cool to share with us and see what it looked like years before.
