    Nosy

Day 2 post-vaccine. No side effects for me other than a slightly runny nose. But that might be all the cocaine.

The Spouse is on the fainting couch. So...Status quo, Chez Nous.

The Dutch Neighbours announced their engagement after thirty years of living in sin. Socially-distanced champagne by the pool this weekend.

Taking it easy post-vaccine just to make sure we don't end up finding some side effect caused by walking too much or gluttonous bread consumption. "Aruba = Lazy" anyway.

The mass vaccination clinic starts this weekend including at the Ritz Carlton. I wonder how many tourists will try and get in...? The Dutch Neighbour said the government is hoping for 10,000 people to show up but she also said, "That's pretty optimistic." I hope there's a surprise and lots more show.

Canada continues to be a train wreck. When we called there to tell friends and family we'd gotten the first shot, nobody asked the standard, "when are you coming back?"... uniformly, everyone said, "Don't come back." Not good, Canada. Not. Good. In a bizarre turn of events, we're going to be fully vaccinated before my in-laws who got the first shot in March and are in their late 70s/early 80s because Canada is delaying second doses for sixteen weeks. Ugh.

    And we soldier on....

So happy to hear you got your shot!
The best trip is the next trip. Anxiously waiting to book something.

    Vaccine Fun

The Spouse: I'M THROWING A CLOT!!
    Me: That's not Pfizer
The Spouse: I"M NOT THROWING A CLOT!!

    Good times.

Yesterday, we had a little pool celebration with The Dutch Neighbours who, after thirty years of being together, decided to get hitched! So we did socially distanced champagne and snacks in individualized Tupperware. We're all in various stages of vaccination but remained vigilant because nobody wants THAT kick in the pants this close to the finish line. As we were celebrating, we watched the mass vaccine numbers increase steadily. This pandemic has really changed what passes for entertainment.

We talked about what's the first thing we're all going to do when we're "in the clear". Hug everybody! Hit the town! Never use the word "efficacy" again! And, maybe, just maybe, fly back to Canada. TBD.

Nobody Canadian asks when we're coming home anymore... it's a uniform, "don't come home". Oh, Canada... our home and screwed up land.

Vaccine Second Shot Wait 2021 Continues... I need a better tagline.

    Let Them Eat Cake

It was King's Day yesterday and we're not really sure what it is but what we do know is that any stat holiday celebrated with cake is definitely up our alley. The Dutch Neighbour brought us over some traditional cake - if you zoom in, you can see the Dutch colours in the whipped cream. The devouring was not pretty.

To commemorate the gluttony, we gave thanks to Regina King and her seminal "227" performance.

We're dealing with a lot of "stuff" back up in The Great White North so that's consuming an inordinate amount of time.

The VSS (Vaccine Second Shot) countdown continues.

have you given thought to expanding your baking?
    cakes? pies? muffins?

what I found is at superfood.........some of the most magnificent looking pastries are somewhat disappointing in the taste department.
however, the chocolate pound cake is amazing.

    "Commemorate the gluttony" hahahahaha.

Regina King, her birthday too ? .

    Liar, Liar Pants on Fire

Not having a great time dealing with the local nuances of getting work done. There's "island time" and then there's out-and-out lying. And there's a distinct difference between the two. The more we're here, the more we learn how to identify an honest-to-goodness commitment to delivery and somebody just saying something to get out of the conversation. From a sociological perspective, it's interesting. From a trying-to-get-things-done, it's infuriating. Oh well... just a little more careful now. One of the interesting aspects is that the majority of the liars aren't even Aruban! They seem to be people that probably couldn't function in the normal constraints of their home country so they came somewhere and thought that pace would enable their laziness in delivery. Not so - what they'll learn fast is that it's a small island and bad reputations spread faster than a California wildfire.

The Dutch Neighbour's second shot was moved up to three weeks after the initial shot! They were originally five weeks out. We're theorizing that the mass vaccine clinic was the final push to get residents vaccinated with the first dose and now it's a race to the finish on the second and tightening up on the timelines. We'd be THRILLED to gain two weeks!

They also shared what Aruba's vaccine passport validation will look like (this is a screenshot with personal information redacted):

Aruba really has their act together.

    Hooters

There has been a distinct growth in the pigeon community down here and they've decided that our roof should be their city hall. I've been spraying them off with the hose but now they appear to just enjoy the gentle shower. It was time to get serious:

    Two Canadians Don't Walk Into A Bar...-owl-jpg

We call him Hootie McHoot-Hoot: Defender of the Isolated. So far, he's scared off the pigeons from nesting on the roof. But they just moved to the roof of the laundry house. By the end of this trip, we'll probably have 10,000 bobblehead owls on our roof and just make it so the pigeons can't land anywhere. Wild Kingdom.

You know that moment when your significant other confesses they've never seen "The Bodyguard"? That happened. Next it'll be "Who is this Celine Dion you keep speaking of?"

    VSS Countdown Continues.

Well, you could do what the Manchebo does and put out a pigeon contraceptive bait station.
