We lucked into a cancellation at "Carte Blanche"( https://www.carteblanchearuba.com ) last night. They've moved the setting out of the main building and into the courtyard. It's actually great in that you can see everybody around the table (as opposed to the semi-circle set up inside. You don't get to see Dennis cook though as he's tucked into a corner outside. Bummer. But he made an appearance at every course to explain what we were dining on. The meal was fantastic (more in Culinary). Glen is still front-of-house and kept the evening (and booze) flowing.

It was us and fourteen Americans - so the ratio fit the geo-political skew.

I wine-paired and The Spouse did not. Wise, Spouse. Wise.

Even though it was cloudy, it was a beautiful night with a nice breeze and great conversations. Surprisingly, there wasn't a lot of talk about vaccines and COVID so that was a relief. Everybody is done with this pandemic.

It's been a little cloudy for the last couple of days - no real rain to speak of. The Spouse is not happy as he's on vacation right now. Oh well... given that it snowed in Canada last week, enjoy the heat, Spouse.

We took The Dutch Neighbours out for dinner as he had a birthday this week - this was the first time we'd actually hugged them in sixteen months... it was a little emotional.

We headed to Bohemian https://bohemianaruba.com which we haven't been to in a couple of years. The place was packed and boisterous. The food was excellent (more in Culinary); the service was okay: our main waiter was excellent but the drinks server got one of our drinks wrong and then showed up a few minutes later with another table's drinks. Then the bus person started clearing out plates before asking if we were done or not. They could tighten those things up a bit BUT we were thrilled to be out again and the environment was a hoot and a half so... we survived.

The island is roaring back to life. Palm Beach was pretty crowded last night. Glad to see things on an upswing.

We headed back to The Manse for a nightcap and called it a night.

We watching developments to see if the Canadian government is going to lift the insane hotel quarantine. Fingers crossed.

Do you really want to go back to Canada or wait until more people are fully vaccinated?

Given Canada is number two on the global rates of vaccination now, we're not concerned about COVID per se and we're fully vaccinated now. We're still being cautious about variant exposure as nobody knows how that's going to play out.

We do need to head back to straighten some things out (banking, medical appointments, family insanity etc.). There are just some things that aren't easy to do remotely.

There's a lot of discussion about ending the mandatory hotel quarantine for vaccinated travellers. We're watching that closely. And given that Canada is in discussion with the US and EU about opening the border for the summer, things are looking positive.

You should just invite the insane family to come down and ride out the rest of the pandemic with you.
The best trip is the next trip. Anxiously waiting to book something.

You've been on the island forever, while I'm here. The hate is real.

Hubby spoke with Aruba friends in Ontario yesterday and he said they are now allowing outdoor dining and easing some restrictions on home gatherings. It seems like Ontario or at least the area they live(which is the same area my SIL lives-Kitchner/Waterloo) are a few months behind the US in easing restrictions. They are hoping to be able to get to Aruba in late summer-after their second shot-if Canada lifts the travel restrictions.
