    Visit #34 - Dec. 15-22, 2019

    Hi folks!

Just back from my 34th visit to our happy island. It was a one-week, very low key visit. This week was the slowest I can ever recall the island being, and I have been here for week #50 about a dozen times. I suspect that will turn around in a big way in a hurry with Christmas/New Year's coming.

I didn't even attempt to do a live trip report, as I minimize my use of devices while in Aruba. Over the coming days, I will put together some comments and observations with pictures and videos.

For starters, here's a link to a youtube video I posted. It is raw footage (from a mounted camera in the car) of the trip on the new Watty Vos Blvd from the airport to near Ling & Sons grocery. They did a great job and it's a nice drive -- and quite scenic at points. The locals are so happy to have this huge time-saving option now open. My trip took just under eight minutes. You can count the number of traffic circles for yourselves.....

    More to come .....

I wish I could report wins of any variety, but they were few and far between. Only one night brought a small win (hit a couple four-of-a-kinds), but video poker was otherwise brutal. The blackjack and Caribbean stud table games were pretty unlucky as well.

As I said in the open to this thread, it was a low-key trip. Turns out that was by design and by circumstances. It was a solo trip, so I didn't have any plans to do much more than beach/pool by day and casino at night, rinse and repeat.

On the flight down, I began some sort of bowel disturbance that kept me just a bit less than 100% for the first 24 hours or so. But it felt great to be in Aruba and it didn't keep me from my usual routine. Around day three of the trip, I started having sinus issues that I first attributed to constantly going from the sunny and hot outdoors to the air-conditioned indoors. But after a day or two, it was clear I had caught a good old fashioned cold. It didn't really knock me out of my usual routine, but again, I was just a step or two under 100% with sneezes and sniffles.

As I mentioned in my reply to cpjones, the casinos weren't lucky for me this trip. It was a combination of the casino beatings and feeling a bit under the weather that led to me call it a night pretty early most nights.

I didn't do much else exciting on the trip. I only ate out for dinner five of my seven nights -- and it was either Smokey Joe's or Azzurro's (both at Playa Linda). Breakfast consisted of either Scott's Brats, The Avenue (the lobby bar at Playa Linda), or the Hyatt buffet (with casino comp).

I am still processing my pictures and videos, but I will have more to come as I continue this report .....

Until then, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Bon Pasco!

not feeling a 100% is a real drag when you are on vacation.
at least you did not let it get you down too much.

when I am sick, I want my own bed.

    bon pasco to you rpumpire!!

Just a couple of pics to post ...

Here's a view from the plane arriving:

There were a bunch of short showers that zipped through on a few days. One such 30-second shower seemed to apologize by displaying a nice rainbow for about ten minutes:

And, just for the heck of it (since I was uploading it to the photo server), here's an update to the pic I use as my avatar:
