We got moved this morning, it was pretty painless. We walked over to Surf Club and checked in. Of course we still had to wait on our room, but we went back to HI and sat on the beach for a while then headed back to play pool bingo. The jackpot was a little over $400. Our friends had some extra seats by the pool so we hung out with them till the room was ready. After we got settled we went with our friends to Chicken and Lobster for dinner. The lobster bisque and chicken parm were very tasty. We walked over to Diana's and had a drink and listened to a guy play guitar and sing. After a drink the plan sprang into action. Our friend was having problems with her watch band and we went over to Sean Jewelry to have it looked at. Our friends have known and dealt with Victor for years and made the introductions. While we were there I told Pam she might as well look around while we were waiting. She found a few pairs of diamond earrings she liked and Victor had her try them on. We all told her which pair looked the best on her and, surprise! I bought them for her. It was all an elaborate trick to get Pam to the store so I could buy her a birthday present that she really liked, cause she wouldn't have gone in the store on her own. Okay, birthday present out of the way and we had a fun evening too, sorry for tricking you babe. Tomorrow we have plans for dinner and we have to go grocery shopping due to the upcoming holiday. Oh yeah, it didn't rain today, best weather day so far.

Sounds like the perfect day, weather and all. Brilliant way to buy a birthday present. I’m sure Pam was thrilled.

Glad you had a great day. It’s also nice when you know someone you can trust at those jewelry stores. When my husband and I walk in to browse the stores the sales pitches are pretty aggressive. But they are doing their jobs!

Yesterday started as most, going down and getting chairs poolside. We had bagel breakfast sandwiches from the mini mart here at Surf Club. It's a very good sandwich at a great price. We went to Super Foods and picked up a few items and got back in time for poolside bingo. Pam was so close to winning the big jackpot, but it was not to be. So we walked down to the beach bar and had a drink. While we were hanging out by the bar we were talking to a couple from Pennsylvania. As they were leaving I heard someone say "WaltVB?" and it was Chris (skichris) from the forum. We talked and had a good time and I invited her to come with us for Pam's birthday dinner at Tandoor. We picked up Kim and Darrin (kemperato) and headed over to Tandoor where we were joined by Chris. It was like a mini forum meet up. Afterwards we dropped Kim and Darrin back at PL and wrapped up the evening at Moomba. We ran into our friend Rudi and sat with him. It was his last night on the island, he heads back to Rotterdam this evening. It was another great day in Aruba.

Saturday was my first full day of vacation and I couldn’t wait to go to the beach. I packed my beach bag, sunglasses and suntan lotion and went to Palm Beach in front of the Marriott Aruba Surf Club. It is part of my vacation tradition that I always go the Marriott on my first full vacation day to order a Slippery Monkey, which is my most favorite frozen drink on the island. There is a beachfront bar, operated by the Marriott, called the Flip Flop bar so I walked there, with excitement, to get my Slippery Monkey. As I approached the bar, I could see a man and woman at the bar, and the man had a goatee. So I thought to myself ….. I wonder if that could be WaltVB? So as I’m in line to order my drink, I overhear that couple, chatting with others at the bar, and the gentleman says “...I’m Walt and this is my wife Pam.”. I couldn’t believe it – it was them! So I took that opportunity to introduce myself and thank Walt for all of his time, effort, and dedication as one of the moderators for this forum. It was so much fun to meet Pam!!! She is absolutely charming and so beautiful….in fact, she was “sparkling”!!! This is because she was wearing those amazing diamond earrings that Walt described getting for her birthday – they were just stunning. I felt honored to have the opportunity to meet Walt and Pam in person – they are truly wonderful people.

Chris, you are too kind and the pleasure was ours. Andrea yesterday the sun came out for a bit, today I never saw it. I'm not sure if it's Saharan dust or what, but it was overcast and hazy all day. This has been the worst stretch of weather we've ever experienced here. At least it didn't rain. Regardless, we sat by the pool all day, donated to the bingo jackpot, and just kinda hung out. Breakfast was in the room, lunch a pepperoni pizza from Captain's Galley and dinner was burgers at Local Store. A boring day, but we did get moved to a room with a better view. Finally we can unpack for a while. Kids come Friday and I'm praying this stupid weather pattern will improve.
