To wrap up, Friday we dropped the car off at 12:00 and were taken to the airport. We waited in line at the first class counter for about 10 minutes, coach check-in line was a zoo. We got through passport control and first security, picked our bags up and headed to US immigration and customs. Again, the place was packed. We slid around the side, did the Global Entry kiosk, spoke to the dedicated Customs agent and dropped off our bags. Got through TSA security checkpoint and were at the Dutch Bar by 1:00. Not too bad considering the crowd. Our 2:40 flight to Charlotte departed on time and after a lunch of cucumber salad, shrimp cocktail and cheese stuffed poblano peppers, I slept till the pilot announced final approach to Charlotte. Charlotte was a zoo and due to weather, several flights were delayed. After a 3 hour layover our flight departed on time. It took 47 minutes to fly to Norfolk, then another one hour and ten minutes to get our luggage. I believe ORF to be the worst, most poorly managed airport in the world, but we have no other reasonable choice. We got home after 1:00 AM Saturday morning exhausted.

remember the days when being at an airport was an exciting "event?"
flying and the airport was part of the travel experience.
now, especially at a place like ORF or FLL or MIA it can be compared to a crowded greyhound station surrounded by angry and frustrated people.......many of them undesirables.

rest up and thanks for sharing your aruba story!
