    Smell at Amsterdam Manor

Recently, there have been some reviews complaining about the stench at Amsterdam Manor. Is there any recourse if I arrive there and it smells like an outhouse? Has anyone ever been able to get a refund and find a new resort (doubt there would be any during high season but I thought I'd ask). And, I am flummoxed by how this place can get soooo many rave reviews, and then someone pops up complaining about the stench. It's like, did they even stay at the same resort?

And, on a happier note, very, very excited to be landing in Aruba on Wednesday! Looking forward to the sun and beach!

    Thanks,

    Andrea

Welcome to the forum. I honestly have no idea about getting a refund if the smell is there. Fingers crossed for you. Enjoy Aruba and let us know how you enjoy your stay.

Welcome, Andrea! Can't help you out with your questions. It sounds like there's no rhyme or reason to when the stench is there. Hope it stays away for you. Have a wonderful trip, and if you have time, let us know how it goes. Bon voyage!!

    welcome Andrea!
    the smell comes/goes....mostly goes.
the sewer treatment plant is about 1/4 - 1/3 mil from Amsterdam Manor, Lacabana and Eagle Beach Resort.

I have smelled it infrequently during my Lacabana visits.
I have smelled it in the LaCabana parking lot, the beach bar at Amsterdam Manor and in the water at Eagle Beach.
Twice it was bad enough for me to leave where I was. (both times at the Beach Bar at AM)

    The keyword is INFREQUENTLY.
    Probably VERY INFREQUENTLY.

I doubt that it would affect your stay. (I am pretty positive )

    Have a ball!
Amsterdam Manor is a very pretty resort!

The refund depends on how you booked. We were planning to end a trip a few years ago at Amsterdam Manor for our last 3 nights. We had booked through a 3rd party site called Jetsetter.com. After a horribly smelly happy hour at Passions, we knew we did not want to stay there. We were able to get a full refund from Jetsetter due to the circumstances. This was not during high season so finding another place was not a problem. So my advice is to check your refund policy and have a back up plan. It could be as easy as taking a bus or car to another beach if you get there during the rare occurrence.

I am here for 2-3 months. I would walk in the am and never smelled it. Twice in the evening on my walks I did smell it. First time in 3 years. The winds were very strong and coming from that direction. I was so surprised to smell it.

We have experienced the odor as well, however there are many who love it there. I think Andrea is correct the key is that it is infrequent. Go and have fun!!

Aruba4ever, CPJones, Lisa, Andrea J, Tracey, Robin and Peg - Thank you so very much for putting my mind at ease and for your kind welcomes to this board. I really appreciate your insight and taking the time to respond.

Tracey, great idea about the refund. I did reach out to the company I booked through (hotels.com) and they said if there were issues, they would work with me, so that puts my mind at ease.

Thank you again! I am grateful for your help!
