    what was your experience?
We were on the 24th floor of 1 Liberty Pl across from T2 when it got hit, all hell broke loose and we had to evacuate.
People on the street were going in all directions and I had to walk up to 52nd st to the office of one my customers. They let me use their conference room for a week until I could find new office space. Made my wife real happy I went from WTC to Grand Central(even bigger target).
A pair of french brothers were making a documentary on the FDNY on that day and got a whole lot more than they bargained for. Everyone who sees it swears that I am in it, standing on Bway trying to talk on my phone with my briefcase in the other hand. I have seen it and cannot be sure but it won a bunch of awards.. Theres much more to this story but not enough time. Thanks for asking.

I was on the way to the airport, in California, having been camping in the Eastern Sierra Mountains for the prior week. My Son was going to pick me up that night and had driven my car to a parking lot 4 blocks from the towers. The car remained there for months. I had two guys working on the roof of 29 Broadway installing some telecom equipment. That building is no more than 1/4 mile away from the towers. They saw everything. They left our van parked on Broadway and eventually got home to New Jersey. They were unharmed but never returned to work in NYC. Another Son was supposed to be in one of the towers that morning for a meeting. Thankfully, the meeting had been changed the day before to later in the week. I got home 7 or 8 days later and started working on restoring telecom services for some of the large carriers. The damage, of course, was devastating but it is the smoke and smell that will stay with me forever. 2 months later fires were stilling burning all over the pit.

We live in North Jersey about 20 mi. from NYC. We can see the skyline from parts of our town. We were actually on vacation in Fl. in Key West. We sailed out at 8am to go to the Dry Tortugas. We had limited info and it was not until we got back at 5pm did we realize the magnitude. Friends our our lost their son in one of the towers. He had just started his job in June. Twice they have identified remains of his thru DNA. So very sad.

You are correct. The smell is something i will never forget. We had to be escorted back into our building the next week to get our stuff out and even on the 24th floor everything was covered in ash and dust.
