yes CP.......I remember those drills.....we gathered in the "cloak closet" squatted and had our arms over our heads bracing for nuclear attack.

my office at the boys/girls club still had the civil defense placard over the entrance door.

The list of names of the victims was released yesterday. A long time neighbor that lives 5 houses away was on that list. RIP Mary, you and the others will be sorely missed. Man it's a sad time in VB...

Walt, I’m so sorry to hear about your neighbor. It really has hit home. All so senseless, very sad.

Oh, Walt, I'm so sorry this tragedy has touched you so closely and for the horrific loss being felt by your neighbor's family as well as the whole VB community.

    Mary Louise Gayle

A neighbor of Walt and Pam's.

    Tragic.

God rest her soul as well as the others who were murdered in this awful act of hatred.

My deepest sympathy to you and Pam. I can’t fathom the pain that you, your friends, family and your community is going through. So incredibly sad.

Thanks so much for the thoughts and condolences everyone. Mary was our neighbor and we weren't really close though our kids did grow up and go to school together. Yesterday was our daughters birthday, and we had a party of course. But when it was time for the kids to leave, everyone hugged a little tighter for a little longer. You just never know...

I too am in CT and remember Sandy Hook as if it were yesterday. CT already has a ban on bump stocks. What aggravates me is its not just about gun control. People will find guns and ammo even with the strictest laws in place. What about other weapons - machetes, knives, throwing stars? People kill with those as well. How do we control those weapons? The most important component to me in all this is to tighten up on the background checks, specifically mental health.

I'm ranting and rambling and angry as well. These shootings are becoming the norm, and it is very scary. It can happen anywhere and anytime.

Sorry Walt. Despite not being close things like this really hit home when they are in your state, let alone your neighborhood. RIP Mary.
