Since 1980, and throughout the many changes, we still love going downtown in Oranjestad.

Is this a case of too much, too fast?

    Good morning everyone,

Thumbing through Caribbean Journal this morning I noticed an article (I haven't included the link here) about yet another Margaritaville-branded resort, this time on the Mayan Riviera near Cancun.

Other recently-opened or planned M'ville mentioned are in Grand Cayman, the D.R., Daytona, and Nassau.

There are so many factors that go into the success of a new resort or group of resorts, but I can't help but think I am seeing the 'Icaras Principle' at work here. You know, flying too close to the sun. Just an opinion.

    Any thoughts?

It seems like everyone is expanding operations everywhere these days-hotels, resorts, etc. You drive throughout the US along highways and hotels are popping up all over the place. They opened a "5 O'Clock Somewhere" bar here(at the Ren Marketplace) and it is a division of Margaritaville.

It's all about 'branding'..... people tend to frequent and trust places more quickly if there is a familiar theme or ring to it...… and so we go on and on and on stamping out a bunch o' copycats!
