Since 1980, and throughout the many changes, we still love going downtown in Oranjestad.

The number of cases in our province has levelled off but the public health officers have cautioned us that now is not the time to relax the social distancing measures. The mandatory 'stay-at-home' orders have been extended for another two weeks.

Robin, you are absolutely right on with the example you give. While COVID-19 has brought out the good in so many people it has also brought out the worst in others. Thieves, quacks, charlatans and profiteers all over the world are preying on scared and vulnerable people everywhere. As Andrea said, hopefully they will find their way to that special place that awaits them all.

One positive thing I see being implemented is the use of telemedicine. I have an appointment scheduled for next week. I got the reminder yesterday. Today the office called and asked if I wanted to do the appointment over the phone. So many appointments can be handled this way and there has been a certain amount of resistance moving in this direction. I’m hoping that when this pandemic is over with, telemedicine will continue to be an option.

Sadly we will be using this service in the morning. My son complained this morning to my wife about something on the back of his neck. My wife checked it out and thought it was a scratch....tonight I was playing with him and touched that spot and he almost cried....after finding out it existed and looking at it, my son has a deer tick burring itself in his head...I was able to yank the entire tick off. It has been attached at least 24 hours. As one of the 1st people in my area to ever get Lyme Disease without leaving the area I am 100% familiar with it. I am not sure if they will treat or watch for symptoms....just another thing to think about.

Peg, we had a tele-med visit last week with my husband’s oncologist. His PSA had gone up and we were having trouble contacting his urologist with everything going on with the Corona virus. We emailed his oncologist (he told us the best way to contact him) and asked him to review his labs and he emailed right back and set up a tele-med visit. It was very easy to setup and we logged on a few minutes early. We could see each other which was nice. He put us at ease and explained the test results. I think this is a good alternative (especially now) and hopefully some doctors will continue it.

Sorry to hear that news!! It certainly adds to the stress. If you have the option of discussing this with the doctor over the phone, you can take comfort in knowing that your son will not be sitting in a waiting room with people who may be carrying the coronavirus. I’m glad your we’re able to remove the tick! Please keep us informed. Saying prayers that all is okay.

Nice to hear that it was a positive experience. My feeling is it’s a good option for certain types of appointments. My husband has a yearly visit with the transplant center. We drive into Boston which is stressful. Then we usually have to wait. The actual appointment rarely takes more than 5-10 minutes. The phone option would be a great option. Now with the pandemic it seems to be a good solution.
