We are scheduled to go on the Viking Panama Canal and Coastal Holiday Cruise this Friday. I'm still waiting to see what happens. Last night they cancelled one of only 5 stops due to "local restrictions". I know one of the other stops is in a country that now requires everyone to be vaccinated, and I wonder if they will shut down completely. I am very nervous about this for several reasons.
1. Even though everyone must show proof of vaccination(it was already uploaded and approved), must test two days before embarkation, are tested when we board and daily, must mask when not eating or drinking, all rooms have their own ventilation system, and we are(I am told) tracked to see who we come into contact with on the ship, Omicron is spreading like crazy. Yes, we are both vaccinated and boosted, but what will happen if we get sick? I've been coughing for a good 6 weeks from a bug Stu shared with me, but it could allergies or my GERD. Nothing seems to help it. I am hoping a warmer climate will make a difference.
2. We have planned to spend 4 days in LA(cruise goes from Ft. Lauderdale to LA) visiting friends and family and some sightseeing. If LA decides to shut down restaurants, will we be able to change our flight? I am more concerned about how bad the virus will be in the US.
3. What happens if the other countries we are scheduled to visit shut down? Will we spend 18 days at sea? Come back?
4. We are scheduled to go to Aruba on Jan. 21. If the virus is bad, will we be able to get a test to go to Aruba?
5. Am I worried too much or not enough?
