Tracey I am so sorry about the fire. I am glad everyone is safe, including the dog...smart dog. Hope all the pieces come together easily for you/them.

if it were not for the doggie door, the animals would have perished.

I'm so sorry about you and your parents' loss. Fire is so scary. What very very smart dogs your parents have to get out of the house and nice neighbors to harbor them. Good thoughts & prayers to you guys.

This is so true! Things I've taken from this: don't skimp on insurance, get a bigger fireproof box for documents, and get a doggie door if you have pets.
My parents insurance will allow them to rebuild and replace some of their things, but they were helping out someone by letting her rent a room and she did not have any renter coverage.

I've been telling my friends to give a fireproof box to their kids when they move out, it's so important.

So sorry to hear this. Glad nobody got hurt.
Yes everyone should have renter's insurance and fire proof boxes too. We have both a safe deposit at the bank (free with an account) and one here.
If there's anything I can do at this end please let me know.
    Prayers heading their way.

paul and i bought a large fireproof box when we moved to florida.
it holds lots of file folders with important paperwork.

no dog door for us though.....snakes, gators, and other awful creatures.
plus we have indoor cats.........they would get out and be eaten by the creatures that we keep out.

Tracey, I've emailed everyone in Louisa that I know. If anyone knows of a place to rent, I'll let you know. Contacting vacation rentals companies is a good idea. I was also thinking that maybe someone on the lake might have a vacation house available to rent. Where are your parents now? Do they need anything?

Thank you so much! I will get you my contact info in a PM.
For now, they are staying in their RV at a friend's house who has an electric and water hook up. I'm hoping with the heat this weekend they will come stay with is or some other friends. We have a big village here, so things will come together, it will just take time.
