Since 1980, and throughout the many changes, we still love going downtown in Oranjestad.

    Enjoy the holiday everyone!

Independence Day here in our county in Fla........apparently is it celebrated either Fri, Sat or Mon.

Our little rug rat had a rough night last night as some neighbors have grandchildren visiting and they were lighting off lots of fireworks.

Happy 4th everyone.... here's last years 4th....and it's gonna be different this year!

Great 4th hanging on the beach with lunch at (you guessed it) Pega Pega. Yesterday was a 3 Bright lunch so...... lots of naps, lots of wind, sunshine and finished up "The Poacher's Son" by Paul Doiron who's the Editor in Chief of Maine's "Down East" magazine. It was a great read.....especially for his first novel. Patti walked to Amsterdam Manor twice and down Divi way once. She's guessing she's averaging 6 miles a day.....while I average 2 hours of naps a day!

Had dinner at Papiamento's last night... and sat poolside. The restaurant is quite dated and could use some attention to detail. The chairs were plastic patio chairs covered in that fabric you see for events.... and the menu was totally home made.... I mean like copier stock in document protectors. It was also hard to follow because of the set up. On the plus side, service and food were excellent and the setting was very romantic for my girl. We toured the inside dining rooms (antique store musty smell!) and it was an amazing old dwelling. Lotsa history there!

Grabbed a cab to the Hyatt for the fireworks and as we walked down to the beach a few minutes before nine, they started to go off. We were in a perfect spot about 50 yards from the launching...… quite intense display, lasted for 10 minutes of non-stop discharge after discharge and Patti said it was the best she had ever seen.

Off to the Alhambra for some ups and downs at the tables (just couldn't get a good seat) and video poker (just couldn't get a generous machine) ..... the casino gods dumped on me last night for a few hundred bucks..... and I was home by 1:00.

    Beach...… bye bye.....!

    Happy 4th to all!

Not to get political as it's a touchy subject BUT my wish is for this country to resolve all its issues amicably and "Come Together" as a nation. As the pledge of allegiance clearly states "One Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"

Thanks for posting that Chuck. We had really hoped to enjoy those fireworks this year at the Hyatt...
