Non - Aruba Trip Report Cruise on Carnival MAGIC

We had a cruise offer from Carnival. They are trying to fill their ships. (well 60%)
The offer was $400 onboard credit and just pay port taxes and gratuities.......Which came to about $325.
    It was a win win.

We had a nice ocean view cabin on the port side of the ship , 6th floor and the cabin was acceptably spacious enough, with a bathroom and a few closets and king bed and sofa. It was fine for us.

We have cruised lots on Carnival, Holland America and NCL, but Carnival really gives us the best deals.

We had to test 48 hrs prior to departure and used a proctored Abbott Binax self administered proctored test.
We had to show proof of negative test results and show proof of being fully vaccinated.

Our ports of call were Amber Cover on the DR and Bimini in the Bahamas.

On day 3, I met a little boy in the pool who was without parents nearby. The child was 4 and the pool was 4.5 feet deep.
The pool attendant was off looking for the child's parents. I stayed in the pool with him and he was all over me hugging me and patting my face. He was a little sweetie pie. EXCEPT he had constant nose monsters hanging from his nose. I know nose monsters from all of the years that I taught swimming.... I said to myself... "Andrea you will be sick tonight " then I was. The parents came back and they blamed the child for leaving them and not staying nearby. I said to them, boy you got a lot to learn and you need some parenting assistance. They did not appreciate my honesty.
At about 11 pm, breathing became tough, I had my own nose issues and a cough that was coming from my knees and stuffed/blocked ears .... so, Thursday I was under the weather but trudged on and Friday I was an absolute mess..... I laid low...real low and felt real rotten. Paul stayed close by and did not leave the ship in Bimini on Friday.

Up til when I got sick , it was a terrific cruise. The Magic is a lovely ship. The itinerary was interesting and the seas were smooth. (I was a bit seasick the second day but that was remedied with Bonine.)

Our next cruise is in February to Panama Canal and I will do things A LOT differently.
I will avoid nose monsters and their owners.
I will take AIRBORNE prior to cruising.

I did have a few good hits in the casino so that helped me to feel a little better.

We ate dinner once in the specialty Italian restaurant, I had short ribs and a wonderful Cesar salad. Dessert was underwhelming.
Another dinner we ate in the Steakhouse and the filet mignon was able to be cut with a butter knife.
2 dinners were in the main dining room and one was lasagna which was incredibly rich and heavy (just like my mom used to make it) and the other was prime rib which was delicious. 3 of my dinners were beef and that is very unusual for me. Dinner last night on the cruise, I left the cabin only for dinner and I had 2 bowls of chicken soup...........then back to bed.

Now I am home, and in and out of bed.
I have been in and out of the hot tub and the bed today.
Hoping tomorrow is a better day.

So sorry you were sick after doing a good deed with that 4 year old. I would have said same thing to those parents. Shame on them! Glad you enjoyed most of your cruise. Enjoyed the report. Hope you are better today.

unfortunately, no good deed shall go unpunished. More people should be as caring as you are.

Your cruise sounds wonderful, except for the cold. A king sized bed sounds so nice right about now. I hope you feel better.

Once a lifeguard, always a lifeguard. It’s impossible to turn those instincts off around water. The little boy was lucky someone like you was around, sick or not.

Glad you got away. I support any meal involving short ribs..LOL
The best trip is the next trip. Anxiously waiting to book something.
