So sad to see a place of such beautify that survived two world wars(and probably a lot more-my European history is lacking) to be destroyed by fire. I have never been there. My son's gf sent a text telling me about it and I ended up walking through BJ's reading it. My younger son's said, "I'm sure they'll rebuild." I told him the type of craftsmanship that went into building that probably does not exist today or if it the people with those skills are probably limited in number.

That must have been a beautiful sight on top of the bell tower as well Amy. Is it true it is 500 steps up to the tower? If so I am impressed with anyone who has made that climb up, I'm sure it was well worth the climb.

I don't think it's that many steps but you do need to take a couple of breaks on the way up. The steps are spiral, concrete, slick and short in that your foot isn't always completely on the step - and slippery/slick from so many years of use. The view is fantastic with gargoyles at your fingertips and a view down the Seine to the Eiffel Tower. There are more steps to the top of the Dome at St. Peter's in Rome but you can "cheat" on that climb and take an elevator for about half of the climb for a few Euros (well worth the extra Euros. LOL!)
