spit in vial...send off for DNA results

this is way off topic, but that is why this category exists.

for christmas, santa brought Paul, Kevin, becca and me the ancestry DNA kit.

I have yet to receive my results back , but Kevin has and he is 100% Irish/scot/Wales.

now, I know for a fact that my grandfather doucette was born and raised in Nova Scotia, but I do't know where his people came from.
the name doucette is french, but the "French" might be so inconsequential that it did not register.........
my mother's family was 100% Irish.
I am anxious to see what mine reveals.

my cousin's sons results were incredibly cool.
he is related to me on the "doucette" patternal side........
his dad was of Lebanese descent.
so, his results were 14% Irish (from the maternal side) 50% Middle East, 36% South Central Africa hunts and gatherers.
as it turns out, his grandfather (paternal side) was black AND after much research my cousin's great great grandfather was a slave in s. Carolina!!!

    it is fascinating stuff.

    anyone?

Its amazing that they can do it from spit or at all actually. I could be very interested in that as well. What company? I am suppose to be 50 percent Irish, 25% french hence my last name, and 25% Italian.

My cousin bought me the kit because our moms are twins and he wanted to know if they were truly identical. Though looking at them there was never a doubt. I got the results back so my cousins and i according to them are half siblings, same mom, different dad, lol. Our moms could have committed a crime and they wouldn’t know which one did it, lol. So obviously my mom and aunt were one egg split. I am 85% italian, 12% western asian, and the last 3% was a mix of croatian and north african

My daughter got me the 23&me kit for Christmas. My results: 55% English/Irish, 21% German/French, 21% Northwestern European/Scandinavian. Some of the results and findings are really cool.

Talk about energy in the air!! We literally, five minutes ago, dropped Tom’s kit in the mailbox. I got my results back last week. It took awhile for mine as they couldn’t get enough DNA from my first sample so they sent me a new kit.

I always thought my background was mostly German with some English thrown in. Turns out I’m less than 14% German/French and 74% British/Irish! Guess I’m a mutt!! It really is interesting. There was one person listed as a second cousin and when I looked on a family history thing that was done years ago, sure enough I found his name and he was born in the same city as me. It’s pretty interesting.

Always thought I was about 50% Scandinavian ….. but only 3-4%. Mostly Western European.... so much for family lore over the years!

    I love this!

The kids did 23andme a few years ago and then convinced us to do it. 23andme recently up dated my ancestry-99.8% Ashkenazi, .1% Manchurian & Mongolian and .1% Sudanese which is inline with Ancestry DNA of 100% Ashkenazi which I did last year.

The biggest surprise was that Stu and I came up as distant cousins! Both of us are Ashkenazi(basically meaning Eastern European Jews). There were a lot of small towns called shtetls and families generally stayed in the same area. There was a lot of intermarriages-siblings or cousins of one family marrying siblings or cousins of another family, etc. Because of this, we end up with a lot of DNA relatives-I have 1109 on 23andme and about 10x that on Ancestry. Our mom's sides come from the same areas of Lithuania and Belarus(one side from the same city 60 or 80 years apart) and our dad's sides are both from southern Poland. We believe we are related at least 5 great grandparents back, on both of our mom's sides. Anyway, on 23andme(he did not do Ancestry DNA) he is relative 1104 sharing .22% of DNA with me however; he thinks it is funny to tell people I am his "cousin wife".
