I think there's a lot more to this story. Need more details before I pass judgment but the couple seemed to be trying to move to Comfort seats which was not in their fare class that they purchased. Some of their statements in their story seem odd.

I agree, Amy. I read another article about it and it seems they were out to get something for nothing and now maybe trying to take advantage if the timing.

when i read it i too had an inkling that they wanted something for nothing.

i think they were just hopping on the "united unfriendly skies bandwagon"

I'm going out on a limb here and stating an unpopular position; please don't stone me. haha

I have thought it odd that not ONE passenger opted for the compensation to be bumped, not ONE??? And, I hope there is no lawsuit. Even though being bumped really sucks for some, I believe each airline has a "Contract of Carriage" in which these situations are spelled out. I think it's implied that when you purchase a ticket for a flight, you are agreeing to the Contract of Carriage.

Should an officer approach me and require that I deplane, I will deplane (but I'm certain for $800 and an extra night in Aruba I'd be tripping over people to get off that plane; lol). What happen to respect for authority? I feel the passenger has contributory responsibility (I made that up; I do that) for letting the situation get that far. Be the bigger person. I know we didn't know what that gentleman was trying to get home to, we probably don't know the whole story.

Something doesn't add up. I am part of many unpopular positions - including the one where something major is going on but the media feed us BS to cause chatter and deflection.
