We have a new challenge to keep us busy as we discovered skunks have taken up residence under a shed in our yard. I feel fortunate though. When I was letting the dog out last night she was just about to step off the deck when I saw a skunk waddling by. When I yelled at her to come she did and we averted getting sprayed. Now how to get rid of them? I ordered skunk repellant and odor remover from Amazon as soon as I got in the house. It’s going to take a couple of days to get the product so for now Maddy goes out on a leash with me and we will not venture near the shed. Also debating on flushing them out first by running the hose under the shed.

If you do experience a skunk spray, this is a proven mixture my dad has used to neutralize the smell. You will hear people say tomato juice or sauce, but with bigger dogs like labs, that is a mess. mix a quart of three percent hydrogen peroxide with a quarter cup of baking soda and a teaspoon or two of liquid dish detergent (like Dawn).

Thanks Tracey for the solution recipe. Hopefully, I won’t need to use it!!! I’m thinking they must have set up camp in the Fall so we’ve been lucky that there hasn’t been an encounter. I checked the shed and there is a large hole dug in the back corner. The wood in that corner also looks chewed so that will be a repair. We just had a new roof out on it about a month ago.

Our local pest control company doesn’t do skunks so I’ll have to check around. They prefer you don’t trap them this time of year as there could be babies. Don’t even want to think about that! Our immediate plan is to wait until the repellant and the odor remover gets here from Amazon. Then I think we’ll run the hose and see if we can just get them to leave before we put down repellant. We’ve been in the house 37 years and never had a problem before. We haven’t even seen or smelled skunks in the neighborhood in years. Oh well, it’s a distraction!

Have any neighbors you're not particularly fond of? Lay a trail of some of that Omaha Steaks meat you got from your shed to their house! Even a raccoon wouldn't pass that up. [only kidding people!!]

(btw, Peg, I finally got my first order a couple of days ago and the 2nd one is arriving on Monday; dined on bacon-wrapped filet mignon last night! And you're right about the cheesecake sampler - yuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyy!!)
