whats your opinion, should i book today?

so we are coming to aruba in february. i've flown both southwest and american. i prefer southwest due to the free bags and the fact that i have a bunch of miles and could fly free.

up until today, the southwest flight was twice the price of american. roundtrip southwest was $1000+ and american just over $500

today, the flight to aruba (on a friday) went from $530 to $233. the flight home is still $529.

based on all of your experiences, does the flight home ever come down with southwest?

i think all 7 of our trips have had airfare right around $500. today american is $501.

thanks in advance to all of you. we can't wait for our trip. we are bringing another first timer couple with us. worst part is waiting the 4 1/2 months.

we have flown SWA and AA to AUA from FLL and MIA.
I prefer SWA as I have a ton of points for free flying.
Sadly they are not yet flying out of FLL.

I always advise folks to purchase their air when they are feeling comfortable with the price and the scheduling.

IMO book with American if the fare is OK with you. I just don't have any confidence in Southwest based on their current track record. We booked a coupla weeks ago on JetBlue.... thought the fare was pretty reasonable.

If it were me, I would go ahead and book with American, the flight to Aruba is pretty good. I could not find AA flights convenient for my trip in April 2022, I went with Delta, it was 655 round trip and I booked it as soon as I found it which was about 3 weeks ago. Good luck!

this is what i absolutely love about aruba and aruba enthusiasts. ask a question and multiple people are willing to help at once.

thanks again to you all. i don't think i'm going to do better by more than a few dollars. i can save my southwest points and go to vegas a few times

Where are you flying from? I have had great luck flying down on one airline and flying back. I am in CT. Leaving for Aruba out of New York 11/8 for $99.00 and back on Delta on 11/22, used 11,000 points

We took that gamgle a couple years ago on United. RT Flights sky high so we took the cheap one way. We really took a hit for the return flight.

Would it make sense to fly down on SWA and back on American? We've done that before. if you do separate airlines, you will likely have to show your return ticket at the airport before you can check in. Also remember that American is doing no change fees right now (double check me on that) but you could have an AA credit for a year if the SWA flight dropped down to where you want it to be. If you are flying home a popular date around a holiday or Saturday, I would not expect much change.

You can mix and match your flights. If you get a better price for the flight down on one airline and better price back on a different airline then you can use one down and one back. Or if you want to stick with the same airline, maybe you can pay for one way and use points for the other way.

A few years ago we left a day early to use points. Friday was like 60,000 points and Thursday was 37,500(on AA). If we booked it with $$$ it would have been $1200 a person. We left on Thursday, spent $200 for the night and use our points. Just something to think about.

$500 round trip on AA is a good price IMO and I fly out of PHL.
