In search of an old Cunucu house

We are interested to buy an old, tiny Cunucu house with two bedrooms - preferably somewhere in the cactuses like Ayo Rock or Santa Cruz area. Every recommendation will be very much appreciated.

This is not the area that you're looking at, but there is a small development here that has a number of them.

Thanks. I've seen those before, but we are looking for an old one.

Thanks for all your information. I read about that. We want to come as retired people and we want to see the Aruba office on our next trip in December. However, if it doesn't work out, we would go for the the 6 month period again and again. We can still own a house in Aruba - no restrictions about that.

Applying for 'residency papers' has many hoops including you will need to show you have sufficient income. You will need additional papers in order to get a work permit here. The immigration office 'Dimas' appears to be barely functioning. This is a quick overview. I suggest you move forward with caution. Use the website listed above and seek the guidance of a professional. Good Luck!

Which realtors did you make good experiences with? Do you permanently live in Aruba or are you a "snowbird"?

We are snowbirds. We used several, but purchased through Prestige Reality because they had the listing for the property. We also used Caldwell Banker. I cannot remember the other company. We visited the web pages of many realtors and listed properties of interest and made appointments. We originally had six different companies, but made our decision after visiting properties with 3 realtors. Actually, we found our condo with the second realtor, but wanted to check out a few more properties just to be sure.

Good luck with getting your Residency. 10 years ago, I had a lot of hair on my head. I applied for Residency, and now I have NO HAIR!!! Its a pretty painful process. The biggest problem is: All the Arabians, tell you something different. And you can stay 6 months per year, but they got on me and said every 30 days, you had to fly off the Island for 1 night. So that's the biggest reason I got mine.

That doesn't sound very motivating. Why did they allow you only to stay for 30 days?

That's what we did (migrated as retirees from Canada). I would advise using an immigration consultant as dealing with the government directly can be challenging at the best of times. The consultant we used knew the ins and outs of getting it done (including the renewals). The biggest challenge was getting all the documentation together in Canada and getting it signed off by the Dutch embassy (who do the document approvals for Aruba). Good luck!

I agree with 'act1966' We used a professional consultant and were very happy with her work during the renewal process....worth every penny. Send me a pm if you wish her name.
