Can't help planning in my mind for my Aruba trip in March!! It's been 6 yrs since my last visit. Not sure the best way to use my iPhone 6 while in Aruba. Any suggestions for the most cost effective way. Will be making one call each day but possibly several texts. Thanks!!!
put your phone on AIRPLANE MODE while in Aruba
turn ON wifi
make Skype or Facetime calls
use What's APP for texting
or send texts using Facebook messaging
or stop at the SETAR or DIGICEL kiosk, purchase a sim card, (have the nice clerk install it and dont lose your verizon sim card)
and you will have X amount of data and calls depending on what you purchase
in aruba, my husband and i used our Iphones 6+
with free wifi
and texted and face timed with our son, dil and grand children before they arrived.
i facetimed with my dog sitter and cat sitter.
it was easy.
cross it off your worry list.

ETA - we use the Facebook messenger phone calling - the quality is really good for wifi calling.

Before you leave, contact Verizon about their $10/day international plan. It's a pay as you go plan. It is $10 per device for 24 hours that let's you use you regular plan with them. On our 11 day stay we only used it once and only had a single $10 charge. The rest of the time we used airplane mode and wifi at our resort. It was nice to know we had the Verizon international plan available if we needed it, but no charge if we didnt. I was able to use texting over wifi in airplane mode with no additional charges.
The best trip is the next trip. Anxiously waiting to book something.
When you are on Wi-Fi: If both have Facebook Messenger installed, you can make free international phone calls and video calls from Aruba.
